Dang ! They seized large amounts of foods that were headed straight to the kitchens of the highest level restaurants in China. Imagine being served frozen meat from the 70's ! WTF ! Dang, this is crazy.
I don't get the logic. Shouldn't it being sold for higher price like old Cheese, old wine, and etc???
Where can they find 70s meat? From government military reserves????
And lastly, is the meat really that old, or the corrupted government trying to bully legitimate businesses????
The whole thing smell fishy to me. It doesn't add up. Why would anyone waste so much money, time, and space to store 70s meat and not actually charging it for premium?? That's total BS.
You don't age meat; you age cheese, you age wine, but you don't age meat.
If frozen properly, I don't see how it's any different from something frozen from a year ago.
That actually crossed my mind, but I think it's more of an appetite thing as you're not likely to savor 40 years old meat even if told it's perfectly fine to consume.

IDK, but I think you're right about China. I don't understand how the people put up with it or how they survive.
Are people even allowed to grow food in China without Communist party approval?

Yes you do age meat, actually the meat you eat has to be allowed to "decompose" for several hours and even several days at controlled parameters prior to sale otherwise it would be hard and tasteless when cooked.
And yes, properly frozen meat can last decades without loss of quality.
The question is how to freeze 70s meet when the entire country was starving???? It is technically possible and yet economically unreasonable.
I'd think freeze drying the meat and keeping it vacuum packed (with preservatives like salt) would be more economically feasible than freezing it for decades. It also strikes me as more sanitary.
I realze the methods may have not been efficient back then, but there's not really any nutritional value of worth in meat anything after being frozen for 40 years. Not at any reasonable temperature anyway. And as mentioned just below me, meat is generally no good after a year in a normal freezer.
Edit: Sry, can't be bothered to repair bad english.
If frozen properly, I don't see how it's any different from something frozen from a year ago.
Cells still break down and deteriorate if frozen. Freezer burn is a term often used to describe it plus it will taste terrible. Meat generally is only good for up to a year if properly packaged and deep froze.

That doesn't qualify as aging. To age something you'll have to leave it for months if not for years in certain conditions that are conducive to desirable traits in the product.

gaza i love you man but it does qualify as aging
there are processes called wet-aging and dry-aging which pertains to aging of meats, and those processes are conducive to bring out desirable traits in the product
i was born in nuuk, greenland, my eskimo pop aged meat all day err'day, not even kiddin'

I actually thought of that when I made that post. There's an Egyptian cured meat called pasterma which is seasoned red meat that has been left to dry in the scorching sun of Egypt for months. Smoked cured meats in general can be labeled as aged, and you guys up there in Scandinavia and its vicinity have a knack for aging a distinctive assortment of meats. So yea, meat undergoes aging for the sake of bringing out and amplifying flavors.
But I was more referring to regular, mainstream meat consumption in which the fresher the meat the better it is. While what he said about allowing meat to "loosen" is true, it still doesn't qualify as aging. Besides, if you read maigiclick's post in which he says the meat in question has been rendered "premium" owing to "aging", you'll see my point more clearly.
On a slightly different note, you were born in Nuuk? Intriguing. Greenland and Iceland are at the top of my to-visit list.
greenland is.... Special. The nature is scenic and beautiful (if you avoid the places where the U.S government have simply dumped huge amounts of waste, those fucking bastards), and the air tastes amazing... I had nausea the first couple of weeks when i first came to denmark, because i was acclimatized to breathing clean air.
I highly recommend it, as long as you have no inclination towards developing misanthropy

Your description of it is simply seductive; I wonder how it feels for some tasteless thing like air to taste so good that you take notice of it.
I'm not socially inept or antisocial but I have low tolerance for social antics and high standards for socialization. That wouldn't matter for someone on a vacation, no? Given the nature of Greenland I expect the community there to be small-town-like which can conjure the worst in misanthropic folks I concur. But my idea of a Greenlandic vacation is to rent a cabin in the middle of nowhere, near a meadow or alongside a river/lake where I spend my days hunting, fishing and exploring the landscape. The nights would be spent reading or surrendering myself to the tranquility of the place.
I don't know what my chances of going on a vacation are, but of all the places I want to go and the different vacations I want to go on, a Greenlandic one is right there at the top of the list.

Frozen and sealed meat can last about 2-3 years. Eating meat beyond that point would put your health at risk. Especially meat that is more then 3 decades old :/
@GazaAli: misanthropic in the sense that, the inuits are all fucked up
the introduction of the danish colonization initially made the inuits heavily addicted to coffee and tobacco, then later on alcohol and hashish
if you're gonna' spend your days in a remote cabin, i suggest you find some means of protecting yourself, because people get murdered up there for their goods, and i guarantee no one is gonna' find your body once it's been dragged a few kilometers in-land. And forget about 911, there is zero police safe for like 2 cops covering an area the size of siberia
the pic below is the murder ratio, notice the countries greenland is neighbored with

The bigger problem is that the meat wasn't frozen in transit so was defrosted and refrozen several times. If that's the case then god knows how many times it's been refrozen over the past 40 years...

Wow it seems I had no idea what I was talking about. I had this picture of Greenland as a laid-back, uneventful place that hasn't been soiled by human vice, where one can just camp wherever his legs take him. It's scandalizing to see the countries Greenland is neighboring vis-a-vis homicide rate.
It's very interesting to know how colonization affected the Inuits; this is certainly the first time I get a [small] window into the matter, thanks.
Didn't they recently pass a law in the United State saying food sold in the US doesn't need to disclose the source of where the food comes from, like if it comes from China? If so, incoming new McDonald's and Taco Bell meat source.

Freezer burn is the literally the definition of improperly frozen meat though. Foxhound said properly meat.

Which as I said, is only up to a maximum of 1 year. The cells will break down no matter how well you package it. You can dehydrate or can it. If it wasn't the case then I could freeze you and bring you back to life.
