The topic name is a name of a composer, basically my favorite composer ever. I'm curious to see if there are any classical music listeners out there, or if there are any musicians studying classical. I cannot say how enough of how much I love Chopin. He was an absolute genius- his work was beautiful and it had hidden meanings in it. For people who aren't involved in music, they sadly don't see the beauty in it and the complexity. The fact is that classical music listeners are just decreasing every year. Everyone nowadays listens to what's popular in the world today (pop, rock, country, etc.) The other sad thing is that since they don't see the beauty and complexity of it they kind of insult on classical music and they get bored easily with it. But I'm curious to see if there are any listeners out there. I highly doubt there is going to be even three this thread, but I'll see. If you want to take a look at Chopin's work, here's some of his most famous works: I'll start with a piano concerto of his: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PY0NFC4aEw -Heroic Polonaise: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6S0VIy4SdY -His most famous nocturne, No. 2 Op 9 (E flat major): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EP8MW6WE9R4 Now I know some people just seriously don't give a crap about this, and that's fine. Sorry if I wasted your time, I'm just seeing if there is any classical music listeners out there.

I don't listen to as much music in general as I used to, but I've been in and out of classical music over the decades. My favorite composer was always Grieg...he just seems to tap into an energy I don't find in most other composers.

I have to point out that Chopin isn't a Classical composer, he was a Romantic composer. I do enjoy the musical compositions of his, they are beautiful.

Of course! Grieg is an amazing composer, and most people well recognize his most famous composition, "Morning". For orchestra/symphony, since Chopin only composed nine compositions throughout his whole career that was for instruments besides the piano, I really like Strauss. Like Morning, people will recognize The Blue Danube. I love his Thunder and Lightning Polka, and of course his Radetzky March.

Oh dude, I love Chopin too. I first really got into him when I listened to Rafal Blechacz play the Heroic Polonaise at the 2005 Chopin Competition. Then I started to learn his pieces: Minute Waltz, Nocturne Op 9 no 2, Fanatasie Impromptu, Etude no 25 no 1, and a couple others.

Technically, you're right. However, most people won't be able to know that. I realize that the Romantic era was different than the Classical era, but it's still part of Western Classical music. You are right, technically, but most people here probably aren't going to know that :P Of course, I love the Romantic era. I love listening to Baroque, but when I try to actually plat it, the style is very complex. And of course, we can't leave out Classical :D

I got hooked on listening to and watching some of those animated classical music pieces on YouTube, I'm don't recall the specific Chopin piece by name but here's a LINK. Anyhow, what of his do you recommend listening to? Links would be appreciated.

Chopin is great. Better melodist than anyone else until Tchaikovsky comes along, IMO. I have been learning the Heroic Polonaise; it is super fun

Also his 4th Ballade is his magnum opus

I'm partial to Haydn myself, although Chopin is also good.

By decreasing, I mean percentage of listeners, sorry. What I mean is how many people listen to classical music as their favorite or primary genre out of all the music listeners.

There's not really a recommendation, because it's all up to your personal preference. You can try to listen to the links I put and see what kind of compositions you like of his- Nocturnes, Ballades, Polonaise, etc. But again, this isn't really that of a great idea. You can just look it up and see which one you like best!
