I didn't like the guys music except for a few hits from Audioslave because Rage Against The Machine was such a great band that I had to keep following Morello, Commerford, and Wilk. Even though I didn't like his music, R.I.P.
Didn't knew he existed until he made the theme song for Casino Royale.
Just listened to it in his name.
I was shock to hear this bad news this morning hearing Chris Cornell passed away at the age of 52! 52 is just way too young to die man, just too young :(
I happen to be a fan of Audioslave musics and I also like an little Soundgarden musics but never was a huge fan of them however.
ah that sucks, Soundgarden is one of my favourite bands and got me into heavier music. Glad I saw them live 5-6 years ago when they first got back together before King Animal released
RIP dude
They're investigating it as a suicide currently. Sad...RIP.
That would be a shame if it turns out to be the case. I thought he hadn't had bouts of depression since getting clean 15 years ago.
That's the thing, people can hide depression pretty well. The article just updated and it has been determined that he hanged himself. He must have had this planned out for a while what with his final concert happening on the same day. I just hope he found peace within himself. It's a shame that he must have felt that he had no reason to live. He's definitely one of my favorite singers and I especially enjoyed the music he helped create with Audioslave.

Reports already confirm it was indeed Suicide!
That's a shame. Didn't really follow his music too closely but I enjoyed a few songs when he was in Soundgarden.
R.I.P. Chris Cornell
Thought it was a hoax when my friend sent me a text about it. Growing up in early 90's with Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam was a great time. Always remember catching the Soundgarden video for "Outshined", such an amazing track. Going to have to boot up the Badmotorfinger album again.
Eddie Vedder the lone frontman and in a way Jerry Cantrell although he was mainly back-up for Layne, are all that remain from the Seattle breakout.
I was pretty shocked to hear about this yesterday morning. I found out about it from the radio.
As a fan of Soundgarden and a lot of Cornell's other work, this death came as a complete shock to me. I was even more stunned to hear it was ruled as a suicide, since I was expecting to get home and read that it was health problems.
Rock music lost another one of its great vocalists. It's just stunning how so many front-men from the grunge era are no more. RIP Chris Cornell.
Thinking about picking up a Temple of the Dog CD sometime, since I never had really gotten around to that for my collection yet.
I had a Soundgarden/Audioslave tribute day yesterday. I got pretty emotional throughout Superunknown (it was the album that brought me into alt rock and metal). Black Hole Sun was bad.
@foxhound_fox: me too, got into Audioslave pretty late, "shadow of the sun" was featured in the film collateral, I heard Cornells voice and was hooked.
Then explored all Soundgardens catalogue too, Badmotofinger being my favourite album its more to my tastes, although Superunknown was a great album too.

My wife had Collateral on a few nights ago when I got home from work. Recognized Cornell as soon as the song started. Man... this is hitting me harder than I thought it would. He has been a big part of my musical life for the last 13 or so years.

me to man, around 10 years Audioslave & Soundgarden have always been in my music playlists

If you haven't done so already, go and listen to Ultramega OK. It's a raw, primitive form of what Soundgarden grew into later down the road. "Beyond the Wheel" and "Smokestack Lightning" are incredible showcases of what he was capable of as a vocalist, and honestly, the intensity he harnesses in those two songs is never repeated in any other studio releases I've heard.
The finale of the latter will blow your mind.
@foxhound_fox: I will do that, will listen to their whole catalogue thanks to spotify.
Sweet fucking hell... 24 years later, and he's still hitting the same goddamned notes... live:
We lost a great man on Wednesday. I'm getting really choked up right now.

Looks like cause of death is suicide by strangulation.
And this is not Cornell:
This is a man who has given up on life and wants to end it. His "soul" is gone. This is devastating.
