Yeah, popcorn and drink prices are ridiculous. I usually sneak in a box of candy or something.

Dude, yes. $6.50 for a freaken small box of nachos and some watered down cheese is a rip-off. Me and my buddies always stop by a walrgreens before we go to the cinema.

If you don't buy it, the prices would go down. Simple, no?

So, do your health a favor, and don't eat and drink junkfood while at the movies...I never do, I usually go out to eat after the movie, it's much better that way.

cause im a student it costs me £4.30 for the ticket which Im Ok with I suppose... but the prices of just popcorn and a drink is stupid... thankfully my local odeon is quite lax on letting you take in your own food so me and my mates all cross the road to tesco where we can get a bottle of coke and bag of popcorn for about £1.50 :D

A little bag of Sour Patch Kids (my favorite candy) is $3.00.. I can go out and buy around two pounds worth for that much. The ticket prices aren't too bad.

The cinema actually gets very little money off of the ticket sales. They make all the money from consesion. So if everyone stopped buying food there they would go bankrupt.

Ticket and food prices are absurd. $9.75 for movie tickets here, $8.50 is the cheapest at the local place. It's around $10 for a ticket here in Boston. Luckily, I get the student discount so I can get $8 movie tickets, plus I have a special card that gets me $6 tickets at AMC theatres. In some places in CT, it's $12.50 for a movie ticket. For food, I either get nothing or go to a supermarket/convenience store for a drink and candy.

With all the money they make from having 100 commercials before the movie, you'd think they would be lower.

If I ever go to the movies, I usually stop off at Kmart and a big bag of gummy bears and a 1 liter. Fits nicely under my coat.

Simple solution - don't go. If you don't like something about a company, complain with your wallet. It's all about supply and demand. Companies will charge as much as they can to maximize profits. If enough people refuse to pay, they'll have to lower the price of their product to make it more desirable.

Theatres are remarkably unprofitable ventures. If you're going to start a business, don't open a theatre... and stay away from the food business, too.

They are outrageous, but thatis where the theatre itself makes it's money, so it will probably never change.

In britain people are allowed in with food from other places so it dosn't really bother me, but the prices need to be lower if we have to have so little leg room and a sticky floor

Hell yeah, they're too high! If you have to pay $8 to get in to see a movie, thats too high, considering it used to cost 25 cents.

Yeah, prices are ridiculous. I just get movie passes from iCoke.ca, but i end up having to pay $15 for food and drinks. Without the passes, tickets are usually $10. I love the $4.25 tuesdays, though:P

Yeah, that's why I rarely go, unless if there is a movie I'm really dying to see. Food is not a problem for me when I go to the movies; I hate to eat while watching movies unless if I'm at home and I'm hungry. Luckily for me, there is a movie theater that charges four dollars -- at the most -- to watch movies that have been out of the regular movie theaters for a month or two.

Yeah, i have to local theaters that have new release movies ($12.50 seats) and then one that has the movies that have been out of the regular theater for 2 months ($3.00 seats)...If it is a movie i really want to see i go to the expensive theater, if not i have no issue waiting and hitting up the cheap seats.

IMO, I think the wake-up call for my parents about high cinema prices was the movie Doogal. $8 dollar tickets, jumbo popcorn and drinks, and a really crappy movie. It's a good thing that a nearby theater sells tickets for CURRENT movies for $2 to $4, only sacrficing a huge screen, but there's one theater where a big movie(like Pirates of the Carribean) is on, and the screen is pretty huge. And the concession prices are decent, but we still sneak candy in there.
