In my opinion, Classical music is more superior in both sound and talent of composition. I do not close my mind to other genres however. I try to listen to songs from every genre. Heavy Metal is still not my cup of tea.

But in my exploration of Music, I have came to the conclusion that Classical Music is superior to any other genre...

...in my opinion...

It takes a pretty powerful Mental Illness (greater in severity of something as unfortunate as Schizophrenia) to blind one's taste in Music :P

I feel as though I should appreciate classical music more than I do. I quite enjoy it when I happen to hear it, but I'd never go out of my way to listen to it. And I don't know it well enough to know what a certain song is, or who composed what, which makes me sad.

When I was younger, my teacher always used to play classical music to us though, and it would make me happy. It does have a soothing, comforting effect on me.

Classical music has been scientifically proven to make plants grow faster or something like that. I like some of Beethovens stuff.

I appreciate a good majority of it, but, as with all music genres, most of it is crap. I don't really mind things like Mozart and Haydn, I like Beethoven, but I don't really listen to it as much as I appreciate it.

It's not really special, it's like all other music: listen to it, it's exactly what you perceive it to be. The only reason it seems to be much more complex because you can have hundreds of different performers to one song, and each of them could be playing either a different part within each orchestra, different parts within each section, or different parts for each player.

It also allows for more subtleties and many things you can't accomplish with just a few musicians, like in most bands nowadays, without the help from extra musicians. Though, modern music with orchestral accompaniment isn't that complex (not all are... they still do have complex orchestral arrangements in modern music).

However, like the user pianist said, the filter of time has left us only with the gems.

I have heard Classical songs I have found unpleasent, or I'll go as far as to say "annoying", but I have never heard a song I don't consider as talented composition in Classical Music.

Another reason it seems more complex is that there is much more repition in the "mainstream genres" (not just mainstream artists) that use much more repition in there individual songs. However that is rarely a point of criticism for artists and band's material due to how accustomed we have become to it.

Ok, that type of music. My comments would be same as yours: some of it is good rest is useless, just like other music genres. IMO: The quality of music really depends on the ability of the Musician.

I agree, nothing beats classical music. It is the purest form music can take. I listen to it all the time.

You might dig post rock.

Check out bands like Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, and A Silver Mt. Zion.
