Just in case you needed even more of a reason to hate idiots who think they can still drive after having a few drinks:

Link 1
Link 2

Brian R. Wood, lead designer of Company of Heroes Online and a key player in the development of the series as a whole, was tragically killed on Friday night in an automobile accident north of Seattle.

Wood was behind the wheel of his Subaru Outback, with his wife Erin a passenger, when they were struck head-on by a Chevy Blazer driven by 21 year-old Jordyn B. Weichert. Two passengers in Weichert's car were killed, while it's alleged that the young driver was also under the influence of drugs at the time of the accident.

The Washington State Patrol say Weichert could be charged with vehicular homicide and vehicular assault once she is released from hospital, while another passenger in her car, 22 year-old Samantha R. Bowling, may also be charged with vehicular homicide.

Wood was 33. His wife, six months pregnant, is "hospitalized but in improving condition".kotaku

And from the second article:

According to the spokesperson, the crash was triggered when Weichert decided to take off her sweater or jacket as she was driving north along the two-lane highway.

The remains of the crashed Blazer at the scene.Weichert's front-seat passenger, Samantha R. Bowling, 22, of Oak Harbor, held the steering wheel while Weichert removed the article of clothing, the State Patrol said.

Why is it that in these crashes the drunk driver is ALWAYS the one that lives (in this case both of them) while everyone else either dies or gets seriously ****ed up? At least both of these idiots will have to live the rest of their lives not only with several vehicular homocide convictions but also with the guilt that they killed (who I assume were) their boyfriends, killed a respected game developer, and left a woman having to raise a child (who will never know their father) by herself (assuming of course that she doesn't miscarry).

When you said CoH I thought city of heroes.

It sucks either way, though. Unfortunately people will continue to drive drunk and ruin their lives and others.

Awful. Three people have lost their lives because of one act of recklessness. The wife and unborn child will have to live without a husband and father, and the driver will have to live with an immense amount of guilt. All because of one brainless decision. Honestly, getting behind the wheel of a car intoxicated is one of the most selfish things someone can do.

Although I've never played Company of Heroes in my life, nor have I ever had any interest in it, this is still an unfortunate tragedy. Even the name of the idiot responsible for this accident fills me with rage. Jordyn!? What kind of name is THAT?

Sad news. I'm sure anyone over the age of 20 knows/knew someone who drove intoxicated, and it makes you sick knowing it can cause such damage.

it was destiny and thats why all that happened. if someone died on a rollercoaster are you gonna say its not safe for me to go. or your friend has an accident bungee jumping are you not gonna go. different things happen to different people. this was meant to happen end of story...

It's an accident. It's negligent and arrogant and a hazard for everybody on the road. But when you're done for the night, and you see your car, you really, really don't want to pay for a cab both that night and the next morning or sleep in the car,

I will say that the inconvenience is nothing compared to the inconvenience of jail time, community service, and alcohol classes.

Don't drive drunk. I did, big mistake About 10 times, actually. I'm still paying for it. But I'm lucky.

And I'll never do it again.

I hear news like this all the ******* time and it never gets any less infuriating. 3 people are now dead because some stupid, immature girl had to drive drunk. I also hate it when people get let off speeding charges from cops, as far as I'm concerned speeding is like randomly firing a gun in all directions, it's only a matter of time before you're going to shoot and kill someone, likewise with speeding it's only a matter of time before you smash into something/some one either killing yourself or some innocent driver.

its not safe i know that...its only safe if you can drink and drive the same as if you were sober.... and this destiny business i mentioned is we all have a day when we will die and no matter what, we will die when it is meant for us to. every action we are doin right now. is already made for us to do. so in other words there is no free will and if we are meant to die at 70 then we die then and not a day before or after

Everyone knows that, it's just the law of averages. It's stupid little things that cause accidents. Like I was driving the other day and there was a spider crawling across my windshield. I took off my hat and hit it, it fell towards my lap so naturally I look down to see where it landed. Next thing I know I'm 2 wheels on the shoulder heading for the ditch at 100 km/h. Imagine if I did that drunk, my stupidity would of had me seriously injured.

Anyways, the littlest thing can cause an accident, and like it or not our reflexes are severly questionable while drinking. So obviously that little thing like looking down will cause something serious.

your talking about fractions of a second in terms of response time...

Really the guy completely loaded that keeps his eyes on the road is a far better driver than you driving sober while murdering spiders.

penalize bad driving, regardless of cause imo.

you can pull an all nighter playing games then decide to go buy a pack of smokes and fall asleep at the wheel... and thats ok... but if you drive home from a bar completely unimpaired and make an illegal turn on red because you didnt see the sign and you have a BAC of .08 its jail time.

I'm just saying TINY things can cause accidents, and driving drunk is asking for your non-responsive skills to be tested. Maybe I worded it wrong, I don't condone drunk drivers. Anything after 3 beers is too much. If you drive without sleep that is just cause in my opinion. This really isn't the thread to debate such things, I'm sorry if I started as such.

Sucks but where is the line? Plenty of our relatives and family friends go home drunk...........we tell them to spend the night now, but usually they refuse, should you keep the keys away and risk an altercation or what? We just let them go knowing they are adults and will face the consequences of their actions :|

anything after 3 beers is too much? alcoholics can drink 10 beers and function completely fine. Its only the light drinkers that become severely impaired from a few drinks. Alcoholics can also be well over the legal limit and show no clinical signs of impairment.

there is a reason field sobriety tests dont test your reaction time... because all the drunks would pass the test... and alot of sober people would fail.

field sobriety tests are designed to test for things completely unrelated to driving skills for a reason.... its not about testing how capable you are of driving a vehicle... its about a bunch of self righteous neo-prohibitionist d-bags trying to enforce their morals on everyone else.

these are the same d-bags who want to make laws that wont let people smoke in public parks... a puff of smoke in the wind outdoors isnt giving anyone cancer... its about these people thinking they are better than others and get off by flexing their authority over everyone else. It helps their god complex telling themselves they are so much better and smarter than others that they need to tell others how to live.

sadly this crap gets into our school systems and is brainwashing a whole generations of kids to grow up and flex prejudice against people for no reason. If you wanna teach stupid DARE classes, then teach facts rather than string together a bunch of scare tactics. This is the reason why people think driving drunk is some sort of sin against humanity.

Why not throw people in jail for eating and driving, or talking on a cell phone or texting while driving, or driving while tired, or driving while on prescription drugs. Half the damn country is hopped up on meds behind the wheel, but because its prescribed by a doctor its perfectly acceptable.

i dont care what the excuse is, all bad drivers should be punished equally.

[QUOTE="gameguy6700"]

[QUOTE="planbfreak4eva"] it was destiny and thats why all that happened. if someone died on a rollercoaster are you gonna say its not safe for me to go. or your friend has an accident bungee jumping are you not gonna go. different things happen to different people. this was meant to happen end of story...

planbfreak4eva

Are you seriously trying to suggest that drunk driving is a safe, responsible thing to do?

its not safe i know that...its only safe if you can drink and drive the same as if you were sober.... and this destiny business i mentioned is we all have a day when we will die and no matter what, we will die when it is meant for us to. every action we are doin right now. is already made for us to do. so in other words there is no free will and if we are meant to die at 70 then we die then and not a day before or after

That's depressing.

your talking about fractions of a second in terms of response time...

Really the guy completely loaded that keeps his eyes on the road is a far better driver than you driving sober while murdering spiders.

penalize bad driving, regardless of cause imo.

you can pull an all nighter playing games then decide to go buy a pack of smokes and fall asleep at the wheel... and thats ok... but if you drive home from a bar completely unimpaired and make an illegal turn on red because you didnt see the sign with a BAC of .08 its jail time.

markinthedark

I'm just saying TINY things can cause accidents, and driving drunk is asking for your non-responsive skills to be tested. Maybe I worded it wrong, I don't condone drunk drivers. Anything after 3 beers is too much. If you drive without sleep that is just cause in my opinion. This really isn't the thread to debate such things, I'm sorry if I started as such.

You suck alcohol. You gave my gramma Alzheimer's. You killed some of my family members. You ruined a relationship with my relatives. And killed a game developer.
