How long does it take you to read a chapter from the book of your class and completely absorb it so you're ready for a quiz? Man this stuff is really time consuming, I feel like I need to re-read it after I'm finished, it takes me way too long. Now I see why all these students are taking drugs like aderall to keep them awake and alert.

It depends on the subject and class. A lot of the time I don't even look and the book and just study my notes and power points. I don't think I've ever outright read a chapter in any book outside of organic chem. If I do read a book I usually just go over bolded words and read all of the stuff on the charts and the pictures.

Ephedra works too, and it's legal without a prescription again. Personally, I think if you need that stuff to pass classes, then college may not be for you. I'm sure some psych majors in here can give you some good tips.

I don't read the chapters. I go to cIass, pay attention, write notes, and I do fine on tests without ever having to crack open the book.

Anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour+. It depends on the type of book (a text book, or a novel) and how long the chapter is and how easy it is to understand.

I am required to read chapters for my Thermo and Statics classes, because we have reading quizzes before they lecture on any of the material. I also read my diff-eq before I go, but sections are really short (a few pages for the whole lecture).

Unless the class itself demands you to memorize some specific information, for most classes you really don't need to hit the book that hard. I'll just look through the book and see whatinformation were notcover during lectures as some professors are sneaky like that and like to include stuff from books that were never discussed in class. During my time in college most of the professors were nice enough to let us know what information will be on the test

Depends on the length of a chapter and the individual book of course. A 15 page overview would take me 10-20minutes to memorize, a 100 page on quantum physics would take me a week and i'ld still forget/get confused by most of it.

Depends. For example, if its for my programming class, I got through the chapter in an hour. But English however, It took me 2 hours.

Depends on the subject, I usually study off of my notes and the powerpoints. In order for me to really process what I'm reading the first time I have to lock myself away in a quiet room and take notes on what I'm reading it can take 1-2 hours.

It depends on the subject matter, the author, the type of book.. Usually what I do is read it once (I am a history major).. And then go back highlight key points and events.. And consistently go back to memerize.. In all honesty the memerization of base dates is the hardest though most irrelevent part of history in the sense.. Dates are all fine and dandy but its a small part to the entirety of the event.. What caused the event, why did the event happen, what were peoples reactions, what did it ultimately lead to?..

If you're having to take psychostimulants just to make it through undergrad, college might not be for you. Undergrad isn't even that hard. I was a biology major, and played video games and slept most of the time.

It's grad school that's challenging.

Depends on my interest. Like for my weather class I really take the time to read and absorb the info because I really like the subject, thus it might take a while. But for my Theatre class probably like 20 to 30 minutes, I read but also half skim through it.

Only easy, straightforward courses are taught out of the book, chapter by chapter... My psych minor was basically what you described... but all my engineering courses are taught topic by topic in class and the book is merely there to clarify.

I usually skim for important details, my textbooks are too dense to be able to read within a reasonable time frame. :? I don't have time for it. It doesn't help that I'm a slow reader.

Really? I did not read one book for psch. -other than when we had to skip a chapter b/c of time constraints

Well I didn't mean all professors who teach classes like that necessarily teach them in that way... I just meant it's only really possible in those type of classes that are basically straight out of the book.

Most things I have come across in law are pretty easy to absorb, only annoying thing is memorising cases. Economics and Information systems pretty much are 'learn by doing' subjects (maths and programming/systems design) so just reading something isn't always that helpful.

It really, REALLY depends on the subject. If it's something that I'm interested in or comes very easily to me, then it doesn't take a lot of extra effort. If it's something dry or difficult, then it takes me much longer. I suppose that's rather vague, but that's about all I can say.

I'm only in my 2nd week of college but the only book I've really had to read chapters in so far is Biology. Depends on the length and if it's something I'm familiar with or not.

It depends on how long it is and the subject matter. If it's something like history then I can absorb that easily.

Usually takes me about an hour and a half to read a 40-60 page chapter in a textbook, probably 3-5 hours to learn it thoroughly. They aren't joking when they tell you that you'll spend as much time learning at home as you will in class.

Depends on the subject matter being covered, and the quantity of which contained in the chapter. For things like math, almost no time. (usually covered more than adequately in class anyways) Subjects that require factual memorization, more time is typically required. Most of my books just serve as equation tables though...

i dont read straight through. i'll read about the subjects the proffesor talked about in the lecture. most teachers don't teach word for word from the book, so theres no need to read everything unless your a masochist.

it really depends, some of my critical theory readings were only like 10 to 20 pages on occasions, but short readings could be really hard to read and understand... until I discovered the magic of Wikipedia, the critical theory dictionary, and every other teacher throughout my major required we read the same things that other teachers made us read so once we understood it once we didn't really need to understand it more math chapters are easy because they teach you everything by sections, so like chapter 2.1 will teach you something and 2.2 will teach you something different, just follow the examples and just attack the homework, I liked math because you basically can teach yourself without paying attention to the teacher or asking for help, you can do your homework in class if you're lucky and not have to do it on your free time though I did have a teacher for a 3 credit class that made me read sooo much more than all my other three 5 credit classes combined, it was 3 days a week for 1 hour a c;ass, she separated the class into 4 sections, assigned 4 readings to all of us, we had to not only read it, but take notes on it and prepare to teach the class one of the sections the next class, and she'd pick which section we'd read that day so we had to read all and be prepared, they were like 4 different 30-40 page sections and required outlining and detailed note taking and second/slow readings of everything, it was exhausting, and I had to do it 3 times a week, over 100 pages at a time

For me, usually 4-6 hours to go through it once. If it's non science, maybe 3.

This is so subjective. It depends on the subject, the length of the chapter, and my mood of course. It can take me days to finish one, and I can finish one in one burst.

Someone give this man a shiny medal and a mirror pronto. ^

On topic: Depends on the material. Some things are easy readin', and I can just skim it and it'll stick, other times I'm finding myself reading the same page over and over again, turning the questions in my mind.

I just read it once and I'm done. I remember everything.
