Hey guys, I recently told my mom that I was an atheist/humanist and she freaked out. I understand that she believes in god, but she's not a religious person. Even so, sheappeared to be somewhat freaked out.
I also feel more comfortable speaking openly about my non-faith orientation, but people in my highly religious society sometimes dont accept me. It's like they don't understand that this is not a choice, but we're born this way.
That doesn't mean I'm a bad person. Everytime I say "I don't believe in god, but I believe in order for our species to survive we must do everything possible to aid one another," People still don't care. I mean it's like not believing in god makes you more moraly correct.
How was your experience coming out of the closet?
