Over the last few years, I have grown to hate commercials SO much that after I see one, I often want to kill every single person in the company's advertising department. They are SO ****ING STUPID. Commercials insult my intelligence. They insult your intelligence. The obviously fake and overly positive "interviews" with past "customers"...the little commercial characters these companies try to jam down our throats as "funny" or "cute"...their jingles and rhymes that get stuck in your head...god, they just piss me off to no end.

I was watching TV earlier, and a commercial for Miracle Whip came on. This commercial presented Miracle Whip, a substitute for mayonnaise, as some sort of social movement. There were people of all races dancing and smiling together, and a young male voice said something to the effect of "We are Miracle Whip, and we will not be silenced." Really? "We are Miracle Whip"? What a dumbass, overly dramatic line. It's a SUBSTITUTE FOR MAYONNAISE THAT YOU SPREAD ON SANDWICHES, IDIOTS. Almost as a reflex-- a response to the commercial-- I immediately made a mental note..."remember never to purchase a jar of Miracle Whip at the store."

Here's another example. That stupid girl on the Progressive commercials..."Just name your price, and we'll create a policy to fit your budget LOL!!! It's so easy!!!" Yea...you're annoying as hell. But more importantly, who would actually join Progressive because of that?? Name your own price? Right, because I'm sure if you choose their best available policy, Progressive will just let you "name" a price as low as you feel like paying /sarcasm. I kid you not, it was that girl in the Progressive commercials who actually CAUSED me to switch my car insurance from Progressive to State Farm (although now that douchebag in the State Farm commercials is pretty bad too). When the woman at Progressive asked me why I was switching, I told her, "That girl in your commercials is annoying the hell out of me, and I can't justify supporting advertising like that with my money."

I mean, honestly, I don't understand how advertising gimmicks can work. How are they worth the money it costs to put them on television? Are there idiots out there who actually get taken in by this crap and respond positively to it? Why can't companies just say, "Hey, this is our product. Here's why we think you should buy it. Please buy it." I have done the best I can to describe in words how much I hate commercials, though I'm still not sure I expressed that hate well enough.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Agreed.

If you want to see how stupid commercials really are, just start talking like one. "Hey, mom...have you heard? Super Duper brand detergent is now 1000% better!" /me strikes a pose.

Reminds me of this one Burger King commercial they keep showing now. It's the "how would you impress your date if your date were you?" The commercial and guy in the commercial are so stupid that it makes me glad Burger Kings all over Ontario are out of business.

i just wish all commercials were like the superbowl ones i mean if commercials had a huge impact on customers you would think they would try making them funny or awesome or anything but making your product look boring as hell...

I don't watch tv anymore, so when I actually see a commercial these days I actually find them quite fascinating. Maybe you should watch less tv?

I agree with the TC. The only commercials that don't do this are ones that don't take themselves seriously, like Old Spice etc...

Yeah, same. Even if I find the commercial above average, I'll only buy the product if it looks really useful or something (which has yet to happen, actually).

Not me, if I want something I'll get it, no matter how stupid some marketing people are.

Yeah I cant say I dont buy the product in the end, because if I did that then I wouldnt buy anything since most commercials are ridiculous.

Well, yes,of course. If I want something before I see the commercial, I'm going to get it anyways. What I'm saying is that most commercials would never under any circumstances make me want to buy the product advertised.

I agree that it's very rare for me, but I am not the targeted audience of these commercials anyway. The only commercials that could affect my spending habits are food commercials.

I generally just ignore ads, but there is the occasional one that makes me more likely to avoid products by that company than anything else. Take the horrible Mr Sub commercials that dub crappy dialogue over old 50s clips. Wretched stuff, I will never buy a sub from them again. Also, in stores the usage of 'WOW!' or 'AMAZING!' or any word with more than one exclamation mark will immediately turn me off. Particularly if they're written in black sharpie on bright pink or yellow pieces of paper and taped to a shelf.

Normally I don't get pissed off at commercials, but between getting all our mail in Spanish, despite only speaking English in the house, and this idiotic commercial we decided to take our business to FiOS.

I really hate the recent commercials from Quiznos with the horrible singing and the faces of cats on horribly animated costumes. My sympathies go out to the kitties that had to endure that.

Most products and services you see on commercials are ones you probably wouldn't have known anything about otherwise.

Yes, commercials are incredibly annoying. I wonder how stupid they think people are, you can see through every freaking 'claim' or marketing technique they try to pull it's pathetic.

Haha, that'd actually make me consider switching to them. Commercials are a neccessary evil we get to live with so there's no point in getting all angry over them. Just ignore them and laugh at the good ones.

I pay attention to Flo because I can't make up my mind whether she's creepy or hot.

I wouldn't mind commercials if they were all funny, but too many insult your intelligence. They had this deodorant commercial and they had these NASCAR drivers saying how cool it kept them. Come on, you're at some racetrack in Georgia where the temperature and humidity are both above 90, and you're wearing a fire-proof racing suit, I don't care what brand of deodorant you're wearing, you're still going to pit out.
