So in school the computer teacher (She like in her 50s)was teaching power points. She wanted us to put really cheesyGif animations and overuse transition and text entrance in it. I decided to make mine clean and she gave me an F on it.

Now for the point do you think Older people who haven't worked in a computer based job should be allowed to teach computers? I easily know more than my computer teacher (She thinks the "Blinking Line" in word is called the cursor, and the actual cursor is just a pointer arrow.) So what do you think about it?

Did the requirements for the presentation state specifically that you had to use transitions and animations?

I don't think someone being older automatically eliminates them from teaching technology. However, your specific teacher is not teaching PowerPoint etiquette very well.

I know how you feel. i was doing it last year and they made you do so much unnessecary things when making powerpoints, word documents etc. i just dropped it cause it was annoying me. But the way i look at it, they need to test you know how to use all the stuff.. even if you will never use it or it makes it look cheesy.

How do you know what her computer background is? I'm sure she knows what she's talking about if she's teaching it. However, I also knew more than my teacher but most kids don't I guess.

Maybe she just wanted you to know how to use the transitions and whatnot...if the project stated "use transitions and animations", would it really have been so hard to use them? :?

I know, 2 years back I had an amazing computer teacher. He was in his late 60s. He worked for HP and Micron for a while.

I had a programming teacher that helped write the original FAA flight control software. Old guy and amazingly smart.

So anyway, the bottom line is, your teacher asked the class to do a specific thing on the PP project. You decided not to do so and got an F, correct? I'm not seeing the problem here. :|

You can tell by the way she talks about them she doesn't really know. Whenever something goes wrong on the computer she either always calls the IT guy or she turns the computer on and off to fix it.

I did use them. But the types she wantedme to use are like the news flash transition and the spin zoom one text entrance.

I know what you mean but that's IT not computing which is much worse. One of my IT teachers didn't know how to turn the age in publisher. Computing teachers are better as they tend to generally like technology and so keep atlesast somewhat up to date though mine didn't know you could get memory sticks bigger than a DVD. Oh and you IT teacher was right, a cursor is the general name for a pointer, the cursor arrows take they're name form a word processor cursor as they were designed to move it around the document.

I just got an image in my head of the Dilbert cartoon, where the boss has his mouse on the edge of the mousepad, but he still wants to move the cursor further to the right. He calls the help desk, and they tell him to restart his PC. I will try to find the cartoon...

I was thinking the same thing. She probably just wanted to make sure he knew all the features, even if those features are stupid and annoying.

What does she think the cursor is then?

It is both the arrow and the blinking line.... I guess she hasn't really used PCs much as the typing cursor has been around since type writers and slide rules

I did have a teacher like that and it was a bad experience. She didn't know anything beyond the one program she used and couldn't spell and was just generally not teacher material. The best thing for you to do is just to do what she asks even if it's dumb and get through the class. I dropped a class with that teacher once, but I eventually had to take her again. You might as well just leave your knowledge at the door and just get through the class.

I know it's both. But she thinks it's ONLY the line.
