Over a week ago, somehow my computer became infected with a rogue program called "BestsellerAntiVirus." I didn't download anything, so I'm not sure how I got it.
Anyway, it sends a lot of pop-ups through my IE browser. It hasn't affected my Mozilla browser at all (Mozilla rocks!). I also get error messages with "Critical warnings" and there are two "On-line security" icons on my desktop that reappear after I delete them. Anyhoo, last Monday, I thought that I may have beat this problem. I downloaded SUPERAntiSpyware, and it detected "Trojan.WinFixer" and Adware/Malware. I did the scan once, then rebooted into Safe Mode and did the scan a second time. After that, I restarted normally and the pop-ups stopped and my IE browser appeared to not be hi-jacked... at least temporarily. I've noticed over the last week that the problem comes back about every 24 hours (if my computer is on). So, do you think that my IE browser's IP address is on a spam list that sends out these pop ups from the rogue software at a set time?
I don't use IE anymore, though I haven't gotten rid of it because it looks like it will be difficult to completely uninstall.
I need some expert advice from you computer pros. I would appreciate a fairly thorough response. I REALLY want to git rid of this problem permanently! Thanks.
