I'm planning to be starting my college education in a few months, and i want to major in Computer Programming. I just wanted to ask those of you who are working in the programming business if your job pays well. I love Computer Programming, but i also want a job that has good money (i gotta eat after-all.) Can you recommend some other major in the computer science category?

I am not asking you to decide my faith (some people make a big fuss about that,) I just want to know how deep the hole i'm digging will be.

Thank you in advance.

CEO or manager positions, almost every job can pay well once you get to the top so the only thing you can do is chose the career that you are more likely to succeed in and get to the top.

That is a bad advice in my opinion. Every job pays good once you are in the top, bu what are the chances that you are going to make it to the top? A good career is a career that will get you a good pay without having to be at the top. Its nice if you managed to get to the top, but expect that things may not go like this.

Code monkeys get paid all right. They have less job security, but it's easy to get a job. It took me two weeks after college and I don't know anybody in my graduating class that is unemployed after four months. Software engineers get paid much better. If you know how to design code, you're in. It's harder to get a job though because managers generally want code monkeys.

I'm sticking with the guy who said french foreign legion...

it's either that or let you join a circle of business that is effectively outsourced to every 3rd world country...

People usually talk yearly salary. Not monthly.

WHat's so funny? I'm basically too far in my business courses to change my major to something outside of the business school. And I hate accounting, finance just seems boring I hated learning the finance section in my math class and management is too vague of a major. On my sheet for management it has all the mandatory business classes then for the classes for your major it's your decision what classes to take

Generally, programmers get paid a decent amount. Someone I know got paid $60k right out of school, and roughly 2 years later he got hired by another company and makes a $90k salary. Maybe he's just lucky.
