Do you people believe that our reality could all be a computer simulation? I was think about this. And it is kind of crazy.

:P Who knows. But think of how many people play The Sims. Playing a life sim....inside a life sim :o
Let's say, for the sake of argument, that our simulated world is controlled by the human equivalent of a toddler. How would it feel knowing that our God isn't even potty trained?ff7fan2For the sake of argument, how do we know god has to potty?
Words cannot describe my utter lack of belief in this, but I guess it's somewhat plausible. If we really were in a bulletproof computer system, there probably would be no way of knowing that we are.

If our world was a computersimulation, then it is highly unlikley that someone with the intelligence of a human toddler would be controlling it. The reason for this is that our world is very complex, and a human toddler would not have the ability to create it or run it.
Most likely a possible candidate for who would control the simulation would be an evolved human form, possibly running an ancestor simulation. The ancestors would be us. Why would an evolved human want to run an ancestor simulation? Many reasons. Maybe our evolved form would want to better understand how they came to be.
Human scientists run simulations all the time. We create environments: petri dishes for bacteria, controlled environments for fruit flies.Recently as computational power has beenincreasing they domore and more in simulated computer environments.
I think about stuff like this sometimes, though I'm crazy.
But how do I know that what I perceive to be reality is actual reality? Is there even a "true" reality, or is it just a matter of perspective? I don't know if that makes any sense (I did fail the only philosophy class I ever took). And I guess it also has nothing to do with your question...
But would it really matter to us, anyway? Even if our reality was a computer simulation, it would still be our reality.
lol it was just a joke man. However, I'll play around a bit I guess. To FF7fan

We view our reality as stable and concrete. If it was a computer simulation, then it is only stable and concrete because the creators ofthe simulationwant it that way. If they wanted to change our reality, they could. If they wanted to reveal that we are living in a computer simulation, they could do this also.

I dont see why not. It could be that our simulation was made by a more advanced simulation and so on./thread See I always kill threads.
Basically the argument goes like this:
In the future humans or an evolved human formmight have the computational power and programming skillsto create a computer simulation that mimics reality. This could be 50 years from now or 1 million years from now. It does not matter. What we do know is that computational power is always increasing.
If future humans or an evolved human form chooses to run these simulations, will they? I would say that they would. One reason why they might choose to run a computer simulation is the desire to study their ancestors.
If these computer simulations create individuals in them that are conscious, the conscious individuals would not be able to tell reality from simulated reality.
If you assume that computational power increases by leaps and bounds, future humans or an evolved human form might want to run billions of simulations. Perhaps they have the computing power to do this. If they run billions of simulations, by sheer number of simulated worlds created, it is more likely that we are living in a computer simulation rather than being one of the original ancestors.
