i can remember when my parents would drop me off at the mall when i was a kidand i would have 10 bucks or so. head straight for the arcade. that was some fun stuff. now i cant tell you the last time ive seen a arcade...aside from dave and busters. i especially miss pinball, street fighter, mortal kombat. having my quarters stacked up on the machine to denote i had downs on the next game.playing at the arcade is kin to online gaming now were you could brag in person and send someone of in shame...sigh memories

Just a change in the community I guess.

Once consoles provided the same quality gaming as an arcade (and then as time went on got better) then it was pretty pointless to go to the arcade.

Though there's an arcade where I live called Pojos (it's more like a party/pizza/arcade place which is why it's still in business), and they USED to have nickel slots. You could play any of the old 2D arcades for a nickel a turn. Then one day I went in and found them for a quarter or fifty cents, and decided I'd never go again.

Nickel slots owned.

I went to a video arcade in a Trafford Centre over here in the UK. I was so excited I dragged my wife in. Hadn't been in a decent arcade for many years. Walked around and left without playing a single game. Fact is that apart from the games with cars/bikes that you sit on/in consoles can provide a much better gaming experience these days. Felt a little bit of the kid inside me die that day :(

I know you can play these on console now but I miss playing Double Dragon, Shinobi and a bunch of others in the arcade

Consoles don't give you tickets and crappy prizes.

Whenever I want to play on Arcade machines, I go to the Bowling alley. Plenty of Arcade machines there.

It's funny how some games I used to pump quarters into I barely even want to play these days for free. Video games have really come a long way. Arcade machines were often way ahead of consoles in terms of what they could do back then. These days everything just seems like small increments graphically, and as far as sound goes there's really not much of anywhere for it to go, but back when stuff like Street Fighter II or Virtua Racer originally hit, it was like, "Holy ****!" It seems so funny to look at a game like Virtua Racer and think that it was absolutely cutting edge when it came out. :P

Well aside from having two rounds on tekken 6 a week ago I never generally use the arcades because home gaming is so much better.

We have a nickel arcade by where I live. It cost $2 to get in and most games are a couple nickels to play. They even have a "free" play section that has old school arcade games. It is fun to take a trip there once or twice a year with some friends.

Arcades are still awesome especially when you're with your friends. It's a shame the arcades here aren't that up to date :( No Tekken 6, no Drummania, no Mario Kart Arcade, no House of the Dead 4 and more. They have them in Manila but I'm not living there >_>

They don't have any arcades around here, including Dave and Busters. There was a good one at the local mall but it's been gone for awhile.

Arcades may have survived if the games weren't so damn expensive to play. I could easily drop $20/hr at Arcades.

No thank you.
but yeah, consoles played a big part in killing the arcades too
Yes I believe they did. I used to go to the local mall and play all the time. Once I moved up from an Intelivision to a NES, there was really no need anymore.

Those were the days. I dropped in so many quarters for House of the Dead, Time Crisis 2, Area 51, and Crusin World.

No they didn't. £1 for one play, often meaning less than one level, killed the arcade. After about half an hour in an arcade you may as well have bought a game with the amount of money you've spent.

i used to love being dropped off at the arcade with my buddies. i think what killed the arcade was how expensive it became after being in there for 30 mins or more. also i think it just became more fun to play a console and play one game for a long time rather than play multiple arcade machines for a short period of time.

Yes they did. But then again I'd rather sit on my recliner with my beer and play games without feeding quarters in every few minutes. Seems like win to me....but this isn't the forum for teh game talks dude.

arcades are the best thing ever. Indie devs should start making games for the Arcade.

I really only ever played the games you couldn't buy for consoles. I played a lot of the shooters where you press the pedal to pop up and what not. I also spent a lot of time with the gauntlet games or with the sniper games.

I wish they had some of those games for the consoles.
