This has got to be one of the stupidest traffic laws I have ever heard of.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
They do that in a lot of states. If you fly past a cop going 70 mph, they probably know you're going past the speed limit :P
And again, if they're watching traffic and everyone is going the same general speed and someone flies past, pretty safe to assume your flying
Police keep you safe. If you hate police so much go to somalia.

Depends where you live. In some places, people either don't trust the police or outright dislike them mainly due to corruption. This does happen in the US.
Cop does not mean saint.
It's not difficult to tell when one vehicle is moving faster then the other vehicles on the road. The court pointed out that the officer had sufficient "background and training" to make an educated guess. Does it matter if he can't estimate as accurately as a radar gun can? It's not like his margin of error left a chance of the motorist not speeding. He's accused of going 82 in a 60 zone. 20+ over the limit is pretty obvious to the eye.
The guy was speeding, got caught, and tried to weasel his way out of a fine on technicalities.

Exactly, people will take any chance to hate the hard working officers of the law.
That's ridiculous, they can't just use radar guns to make sure?0Tyler0
He did use a radar gun. It said 82. However, this evidence was ruled out on a technicality because the officer didn't produce documentation proving he was certified to use it (as if it's a complicated tool to use?).
That's how it is in most states :|.
Contrary to what you always hear, cops usually do not have to have a radar reading to show you.
It would be a different story if police gave speeding tickets because they are worried about the safety of the other drivers on the road.Police keep you safe. If you hate police so much go to somalia.

Well, let me add this to list of reasons not to visit Ohio. *Walks away, pulls out scroll, unfurls scroll, scroll fills entire room, writes on bottom of scroll, rolls scroll up, puts scroll back*Theokhoth
It is much easier to make a list of reasons you would ever end up in Ohio I only have two:
1) Cedar Point
2) Passing through.
:P

I am curious. Please share your conspiracy theory on how cops are after you?

I'm going to Cedar Point this summer..So damn excited
And I have to pass through Ohio a lot. I gotta admit, their rest areas are pretty damn good.
Well to be fair if you an Ohio driver the odds are you are breaking some sort of traffic law.
Seriously half the car accidents in northern Kentucky are from Ohioans.
Ohio learn to ******* drive.
from ohio (from article)
"Authorities in Ohio say a man survived crashing his car into a house but was killed walking away from the accident when he was struck by a pickup truck."
Your best option is to out run them, just make sure you rig a contraption to cover your licence plate at will:lol:
You can actually only do this if the court find that you have enough experience to make an accurate account of the speed based on the circumstances. An officer cannot stop you whenever he likes and tell you he thinks you were speeding. Ninja-HippoIf this is true then that's much more reasonable. I still don't agree with it in full but this doesn't sound absurd like being able to pull someone over if you think they're speeding.

no, no, they are not after me. No conspiracies. They don't give a crap about safety in terms of vehicle and traffic laws. All they care about is writing the tickets. More tickets=more revenue.Well, let me add this to list of reasons not to visit Ohio. *Walks away, pulls out scroll, unfurls scroll, scroll fills entire room, writes on bottom of scroll, rolls scroll up, puts scroll back*Theokhoth

You see, though, the police officer has absolutely no evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he isn't lying. In this case, it's one man's word against another. A police officer's word alone should not be sufficient to convict someone. Police lie like everyone else. The state should have more evidence than a police officer's word to convict someone of a crime.

That's exactly what I think. It's innocent until proven guilty, and a cop's word shouldn't count as solid proof.[QUOTE="Theokhoth"]Well, let me add this to list of reasons not to visit Ohio. *Walks away, pulls out scroll, unfurls scroll, scroll fills entire room, writes on bottom of scroll, rolls scroll up, puts scroll back*LZ71

Cleveland's the only good part of Ohio. :xIn radar school you have to be able to accurately guess the speed or vehicles within 5 mph. I'm pretty good at it. I actually had a guy in court argue a ticket I gave him and went outside with a judge, the guys attorney and a traffic officer with radar and I accurately guessed 20 cars in a row within 3mph without radar. It can be done but takes practice. He was found guilty. Plus he was doing 50 in a 25 in a workzone.
