Been wanting to get a better sound system for my vehicle, was just wondering how much a standard setup would cost ( 2x speakers, 1x subwoofer, sub case and amp) including professional installation? I just want really crisp, high quality sound w/bass instead of stock crap and i already got the radio deck. Would anyone know the cost or tell us how much yours cost if youve ever had it done?

If you go to like Best Buy, probably close to a grand after installation if you get their higher end stuff. I wouldn't recommend that, get the stuff from Crutchfield and find a local dealer that does installs for that stuff. It might still be a lot of money, but you'll get better stuff.

What spazzx said. i just recently upgraded my sound system in my car. I ordered 4 speakers ($50 per pair, so $100) and a new receiver (mine was $100) from crutchfield. I'm gonna be getting a subwoofer and amp soon. The installation was pretty simple eventhough i never installed a system before. Most of their stuff comes with free adapters and all that good stuff with detailed instructions on your specific car.

Don't use Crutchfield, they're way overpriced. Just type in car audio on google and use the ones on the first page. I spent a little over $1k on mine, (Subwoofer, 2 amps (1 for sub, 1 for speakers), Component speakers, and LCD touch screen head unit. You definitely could spend less though. I recommend going to www.caraudio.com and visit the forums. Tell them you're budget and they'll recommend you the best setup for your money.

For installation, you could do it yourself (it really isn't that hard, I did mine for the first time by myself), or you could take it to a local car audio shop or even Best Buy.

I installed mine myself but it wasn't my 1st install so I knew what I was doing already. I put out for a very nice head unit and plan on putting in some after market speakers in the near future. My headunit is a Kenwood DDX512 and I paid almost $500 for it. It is very nice and well worth the money but I could have got it for around $350-400 if I bought it used off ebay. Like I said it's an expensive unit and I wanted to have a warranty for it so I purchased it brand new. No regrets here. I love the unit, but if you're looking for something a little cheaper for a headunit without a viewscreen then I'd recommend Pioneer products. I had one in the past that was flawless.

If you want a high quality sound, you're going to need more then just 2 speakers, a sub, and an amp.....cause yah, that'll give you bass, but thats it. Your car will rattle, and it wont sound balanced out. You need atleast some tweeters, or else all you'll hear is the lows, and some mids, but no highs. I'd say, New deck, I'd go with an iPod ready deck, then wire it up to keep an iPod of HDD in your glove box Atleast 6 speakers, (2 as 2-ways, 2 as just tweeters, and 2 more as 4 or 5 ways. The 2 ways for the kick panels, 2 tweeters for the front doors, and the 4 or 5 ways for the rear panel behind the rear seat). Although 8 speakers work best. I have 8 sets of speakers in my car (2 2-way in the kick panels, 2 mids and 2 tweeters in the 2 front doors, and 2 4-ways on the panel behind my seat. Really evens the music out around the interior of my car. 1 or 2 subs, just one is usually fine as a 10 or 12 inch Then to top it off, a 5 channel amp to power everything. Separate channel for each corner of your car, then the last remaining for your subs. And to get the best sound without the road sound or rattling from the subs, line your interior and trunk with DynaMat. A good system would cost you about a grand, but you can get everything for pretty cheap, but just remember, the quality will be reflected by the cost. The more expensive, the better sounding, the cheaper, the poorer sounding......
