Does this make sense? Maybe I'm having a holiday brain stutter but the US is the United States of America, but isn't Costa Rica of the Americas too? And Nicaragura of America too since we all live in America?

This whole side of the planet is called America I was almost called Colombia, for Cristobal Colon (Christopher Columbus). The United States of Colombia lol But for some odd reason they decided to name it after Amerigo Vespucci, America.

Actually america isn't named after Amergio Vespucci. It seems that America was named after a wealthy fish merchant who lived in Bristol England. The merchants name was Richard Amerycke and he owned fishing boats which sailed to The Grand Banks of New Found Land, the first Brish colony.

Except that the term "America" predates the first British colony in the Americas by nearly 80 years.
