Then why the need to be saved at all? If God is just going to judge people by their lives and still allow them into Heaven, when they haven't encountered Christ, why must the people who have heard of Christ repent and accept him as God? If I hear of Christ and decide that I want to follow his ideals and lead his example in helping and loving others, but I decide not to accept his divinity, then I am condemned? I can spend the rest of my life helping others, loving others, following Jesus's example, and believing in God, but if I don't accept that He is God, then I go to Hell. Does not seem fair or logical.

I've been taught to think of it as a boat crossing the ocean from the united States to Europe. Christianity is a Cruise Liner. It is the easiest way to sail across the ocean, however that doesn't mean it's a sure way to heaven just the easiest, the navigation could go out and you would be lost (Sin) but luckily there is a repairman on board that can fix i. Other Abrahamic religions like Judaism or Islam are like sail boats. There's a chance they can make it across but there is a lot that could go wrong. Other non abrahamic religions that teach good values and morals are like life rafts, then non-religious are like swimmers. They could all in theory make it but if you want to make it to heaven then your going to go the route that makes it most easiest. There is little help when you are swimming alone.

So an Athiest who spends his life following a good moral code can make it across the ocean that is this life. But it's much easier for something to go wrong and he could drown along the way.

I can accept that. It's not to often I hear from someone who's about to become a priest, that you can take other paths to God, and still get there. I've always just been told, Christ is the One path and the ONLY way to God, which I couldn't buy for a second. Perhaps my path will still be slightly less arduous since I am trying to follow Christ's example and his teachings about compassion and humility. Maybe. it'll give my life raft one of those nice little motors to help speed me across :P.

Me too! :D

Of course not. Hitler killed millions who did not need to die.

It's funny how everyone seems to have their own idea of how one gets a ticket to heaven. No one here truly knows. Obviously.

I would argue that contrary to human logic, if someone like Jeffery Dahmer who felt remorse, read Christian brochures, became born again after reading the bible with a minister and even got baptized in prison can get saved, then if you believe in Jesus and gets baptized, then you can go into Heavan. Heck, even the Apostle Paul managed to have gotten saved even though he has killed numerous Christians before his conversion. In God's eyes, there is not difference between each sin, because sin is sin.

[QUOTE="EmpCom"]If they were truly sorry then yesth3warr1or
But such is their personality that they wouldn't be.

But if it was a fault of their brain, then how could they be held truly responsible for their actions?

I mean, think about it. We don't try people with mental disorders as hardened murderers, if Adolf and Osama were the same way, the severity of their crimes and the extent are the only differences. Legally, they can't be held accountable anymore than a person of questionable sanity can his crimes.

Of course, thats legally, but how could God hold a person accountable for a crime if they were not of sound mind to understand the consequences of their actions?

Oh *$&%, its gonna get complicated.

I believe so. Only if they were honestly from the bottom of their heart sorry.

Do you think they would be sorry because they risk going to hell or because they truly meant it?

If they commit their lives to Christ, believe in Jesus as being their Saviour, and ask for forgiveness, then yes, I believe they will go to heaven.

I've actually talked to a theologian about this very thing and he said that if they were doing what they were doing truly was good and just that they would go to heaven. Whether or not they believed what they were doing is good is a whole different discussion. Basically, those who go to hell are those who reject God and hell is the absence of God. This is according to Catholicism, other religions will have slightly different views.

I always found it very egotistical of humans who believe in God to assume they know what he will do with them.

I would imagine that a God would be able to understand mortal men's problems and forgive them for doing foolish things. After all, weren't people created in God's image? If so, then he knew full well the problem he gave people when he created them. How could a God hold such a thing against his own creation? If he doesn't have the will to forgive, he shouldn't be a God worth worshiping. How can you make something exactly how you want it and then turn a shoulder to them when they act exactly how they were made? Obviously all people are different, but a God would know this, having created them. A God would understand that what he is making may not all be the same, and instead change over time; Because of this they need to be able to forgive, because the God is the one that caused the problem in the first place.

I'm not a religious person, but I believe that if there were a heaven, and the Christian God is this all intelligent being, he would understand his own wrongs and be able to forgive others for their's, no matter what they did. Of course, with this logic, there seems to be little point for a hell if all are accepted into Heaven. I believe there are a lot of holes in all religions practiced in the world today.

Like I was saying, I don't necessarily believe in a God because to me, it's silly. I can however certainly understand why someone would believe in a divine being and an afterlife. It's something to look forward to and a way to help men cope with their own mortality. It's especially useful in wartime to get your men willing enough to sacrifice for the crown/country.

Now that I think about it, if God created man in his own image, maybe he wanted them to be flawed and possibly see if they can change, if they can fix themselves without any outside force. This is hypothetically speaking of course.

On one hand they all committed "sins" and therefore should go to hell. But on the other hand God forgives all and will let them into heaven. A bit of a contradiction there, not to mention God created all of us. Why would he create people that will live on to commit these sins the the first place?

You get to (christian) heaven by accepting christ, no more, no less. Being good (like mother teresa) or bad (like hitler/Osama) effectively determines you rewards/punishments, but accepting christ is the way in. Hitler I wouldn't know, I don't believe he was very religious (He blamed Jews for Germany's depression, not because of religious differences). Osama being a muslim believes he's earning his rewards in heaven, but they are based on muslim believes which I am no wntirely familiear with. Hope that helps.

God is a **** **** then. He creates a universe that contradicts his existence, and he creates humans with the ability to identify these contradictions, and then he sends all the ones that deny his existence to hell! If God is the nice one, I'd hate to meet the devil.

In the context of this thread, it doesn't matter what we think. Only what God thinks (or knows) matter.
