"Clearly this program is attempting to manipulate Americans into ignoring the threat of jihad and to influence them to believe that being concerned about the jihad threat would somehow victimize these nice people in this show.

The show profiles only Muslims that appear to be ordinary folks while excluding many Islamic believers whose agenda poses a clear and present danger to liberties and traditional values that the majority of Americans cherish," the group said about the show, a docu-soap chronicling everyday Muslim families in Dearborn, Michigan."

Florida Family Association.

CAIR also calls out several other groups that have websites inviting its visitors to fill out forms that send messages lamenting "Muslim" to participating advertisers. These orgs claim to have prompted a number of marketers to pull out of the show, though in some cases messages from those companies posted online don't suggest they are doing so in response to calls for boycott.

"Muslim" is an unscripted series that premiered last month on the Discovery Networks-owned cable channel following the lives of a group of middle-class American Muslim families in Dearborn, Mich.

So why would we deport them if the show is only depicting ordinary muslims and they're American citizens?

Just because you can be stupid, TC, doesn't mean you should be.

Osama speaks for millions of people?

By the way he was the leader of a terrorist group. Not 'the leader of muslims'.

The world doesn't need any more apologists for Islam. It's nearly impossible to criticize Islam on the media anyways. This social engineering is meant to appeal to emotion rather than offer any intellectual insight about Islam. It intends to distract the viewer from somber realities and gives cover to the Islamofascists for another while longer. Islam is a political ideology that competes with democracy and should not be appeased.

Muslims, the new black/Communist/German/Japanese/Jewish/Irish/Italian/British equivalent of the USA.

And once again, we're seeing the faulty logic of "All Islamic terrorists are muslims, therefore all muslims are Islamic terrorists".

But in the strong traditions of the USA, Americans should just shove the whole "Freedom of religion" and "Right to freedom of expression" in the face of this sort of campaign.

Yeah, pretty much... although it's always a bit disheartening to see people take their issues with a religion and make them a global commentary on over a billion people. Not unusual, true, but... *sigh*.

Putting all political opinions aside, what exactly is the point of this boycott? The people participating in the boycott were never going to give the show a chance anyway. If anything the boycott will get the show's name out there more. I didn't even know this show existed until I heard people were boycotting it.

where did you get these ideas? Are you a muslim? have you talked to any muslims? I come from a muslim family and i can tell you that Islam is a religion in the same way catholicism is a religion. For you to say that Islam is a polticial ideology competing with democracy is absurd. You obviously know nothing of Islamic history. Read up a bit about 600Ad to about 1200 Ad and then come back and speak. Also you said that you cant criticize islam on tv? Are you kidding? try watching fox

Who gives a sh*t how some people live? A person's day to day routine says nothing about their political and ideological convictions. There is no useful information that can be gleaned from a reality show. If you watch the daily routine of some white supremacists, it's probably not very different from the average person's. Just like anyone else, they go to work, rear their kids, go to the mall, etc.

I find it boring because it IS predictable, but IMO there are people who think that Muslims in America and other first world countries are all like some Yemeni goatherder. You can also see whether or not, in the midst of said routine (using the white supremacist as an example), whether or not they add in a few "heil hitlers". While I don't agree with max-Emadness that this show represents "99%", because lets be honest... you have the middle east, Indonesia, North Africa, where life is DISTINCTLY different.... I think this is a good insight into how Islam translates into life in a country that isn't third-world.

What can I say... I have issues with elements of Islam, but it doesn't translate into blanket hatred or dislike. I know too many genuinely modereate Muslims who adhere to different interpretations which are NOT objectionable to take the hostile view, that you take.

We just witnessed in the other thread almost every muslim on OT trying to rationalize the rape of a 9 year old. As you said, Muslims have to defend Muhammad's actions, or admit Islam isn't perfect. Every muslim has to legitimize a pedophile and a mass-murderer.

It's like saying all Christians legitimize Jesus Christ. It applies to every single Christian out of billions. It is not a generalization, it is a category. There is nothing wrong with making such a broad statement.

We witnessed a few Muslims from countries which are quite... strict... in the middle east/asia/africa doing what is predictable. This is NOT the norm by necessity; and while it does seem to require something in the way of mental and spiritual contortionism, most Muslims I know in the West, Gulf States, and the like wouldn't take that view. Just like a Muslim who drinks, and does so saying that god will forgive him (not uncommon in my experience), people seem to make their own concessions in relation to Islam.

It is true however, that the nature of Islam does make it harder for such people, ESPECIALLY in the context of a hyper-devout society. In the context of saaaay.. the American midwest however, those compromises and looser interpretations CAN and DO fly. It's worth noting both schools of thought, and the challenge that belief in the Quran as perfect presents, but never underestimate human adaptability.

Yeah, pretty much... although it's always a bit disheartening to see people take their issues with a religion and make them a global commentary on over a billion people. Not unusual, true, but... *sigh*.Frame_Dragger

There is nothing wrong with making such a broad statement.

islam isnt perfect, but neither is any religion. But for you to say that when Muslims and their beliefs are a threat to democracy is absurd. Pope Alexander the 6, if you want some messed up christians

The problem is that some people will not accept an imperfection in what is meant to be the unadulterated word of their (your) god. Those people can be pretty shocking in the lengths they go to, some of which would include decrying you for questioning that very perfection. What I recognize, and PWsteal_Ldpinch seems to ignore is that there are plenty of people who are Muslim, but accept imperfection.

@max-Emadness: Ahhhh, I see, fair enough.

After doing some research on the show, it appears that it's actually a very boring show that shows muslims that are americanised and have normal day to day lives like the rest of us.

These people boycotting it just do so because it doesn't fit their agenda of 'evil muslims here to blow up america and force islam on us.'

Just damn hypocrites that hate seeing truth going against their hate.

If they really are against radicals and terrorists, then why not support a TV show that shows muslims being just the opposite?

It's no more harmful to Americans than most reality shows.

There should be more discussion about the Koran, but the real problem is lack of discussion at schools, and maybe the child birth ratio that deviates wildly per culture, though I'm not sure whether that is real.

The fear is rational. There is a large group of people with motivations and goals that we do not know and that probably are not based on something logical.

Your misconceptions of Islam and Muhammad are incorrect and bigoted...I'd suggest actually reading a RELIABLE source, or going to a mosque and asking a few questions, since you are clearly arrogant and ignorant, the worst characteristics that define stupidity

What did I do? In what negative manner did I portray muslims/Islam for you to so readily disregard my posts?
