Couple arrested after towing granddaughter behind their SUV has the details about a Florida couple arrested after connecting their 7 year old granddaughter's toy car to their SUV with two dog leashes, with the grandpa driving drunk and on a suspended license.

Makes one wonder doesn't it?

What an incredibly idiotic thing to do. If I was one of the parents, I'd be pissed.

It says they were driving between 5-10 mph. If it wasn't for the fact the grandparents were drunk, this story would've been a cute example of a kid having fun with her grandparents, nothing more.

This is why people should be made to pass a basic IQ test before having children. Some people just are not fit to have children.

10MPH is pretty fast to be hauling a Powerwheels. If they had to stop really fast, that little kid would be under their car or smashing into it.

10 mph is jogging speed. And Grandma was riding in the back with the hatch open, so she was in position to keep the kid from going under. That kid was in no more danger than if she was riding a bike up and down the street.

I've done that with a bicycle, granted not with children.., and we understood the idiocy in the stunt we were doing.

I highly doubt granny would be able to do anything to stop the kid from flying into the back of the car.

If they had to stop suddenly during a turn, that kid would veer into the other lane and possibly be hit by oncoming traffic.

Or the powerwheel would just flip over and spill the kid into the street. Dangerous either way. This reminds me of when we used to ride wagons down steep hills in the backyard at high speeds and the slightest turn or bump would send us flying into the gravel.

Why not? It's not like she's elderly. Article says she's 47. And all she had to do to keep the kid from hitting the car was keep her legs exactly where they were. She'd have to purposefully move out of the way in order for the kid to hit the car or go under.

Anyone saying this is not dangerous are people who should not have Children. Kids do bad enough things on there own with out any help from those that should know better.

What other lane? What oncoming traffic? It's a little paved access road away from the main road. The "road" they were on, was little more than a shared driveway.

If you really don't see the danger in hauling a kid on a powerwheels behind a car connected by a dog leash, then I don't know what to say. Kids do enough stupid stuff on their own. No need to contribute.

Roads are not perfect, any bump or crack could have sent the kid over. Its bloody stupid.

Spill the kid into the street... AT 5-10 MPH!! That'd be as damaging as if she had tripped and fell while running. Worst case scenario: she skins a knee or elbow.

Little kids don't move at 10mph in a seated position. If it flipped and the kid was stuck in it, the car would be dragging him. Even with grandma telling the driver to stop it would be too late.

Gets her leg caught in the powerwheels, is dragged far enough to remove all the skin from knees/elbows.

Dragged? Grandma was right there with her to tell Grandpa "stop, she fell off". The alcohol is the ONLY reason she was in any real danger.

Too late to prevent what exactly? Suffer a wreck as deadly as you and your friends used to get when falling out of your wagons onto the gravel?

I should specify that I don't think they should have been arrested. I'm just amazed by how stupid they were. Then again, if they were only 40 when they became grandparents, I'm guessing stupid runs in the family.

There are too many variables to make this okay on a street. Besides, the driver had previous DUIs so who knows what that fool would do.

I agree that this should of been done in a driveway or private property with someone that is actually allowed to be operating a motor vehicle but I think the dragging the child argument is a bit weak if alcohol wouldnt of been involved. I used to be pulled round in my little car by my grandpa on his tractor. That was about 5-10 mph

You do know a childs skull is not fully fused right? It offers less protection then an adults, and 10MPH is more then enough to cause serious damage. If you know of a Child that can go that fast on its own power I would be very impressed.

At 5-10 mph I doubt the raction time to stop the car would be very great. Hardly 5-10 seconds.

There are too many variables to make this okay on a street. Besides, the driver had previous DUIs so who knows what that fool would do.

I agree that this should of been done in a driveway or private property with someone that is actually allowed to be operating a motor vehicle but I think the them dragging the child arguement is a bit weak if alcohol wouldnt of been involved. I used to be pulled round in my little car by my grandpa on his tractor. That was about 5-10 mph

Regardless, it was involved.
