That's fine. Social conservatism is not benefiting society in any way, and I would hope that it will soon die out.
While I hope that day comes, it doesn't look like its coming anytime soon.Society won't improve much until it embraces social libertarianism.

[QUOTE="Stevo_the_gamer"]Pro-life, anti-gay marriage, opposition to teaching evolution in school, etc. The general stuff.Yes to gay marriage and evolution stuff, no to the rest of the general stuff like gun control and the attitudes of abortion. What part of it?

Depends, even among social conservatives there are different levels, but I don't think it will. There is nothing inherently wrong with social conservative values themselves, despite what the OT community around here thinks (ironically they call social cons closed minded but yet they do the same thing), social conservatism is very strong and even growing in some areas.
I don't agree with all aspects of it, but I do agree with them on abortion and I tend to favor Civil Unions, but that is really about it. But the important thing to remember, and I wish OT people would see it, is that Social Conservatives are not stupid or bad people, they just have a different way of viewing the world. Wether you agree with that view or not is a different thing, but they are not the stupid evil red necks you guys make them out to be.
At my college one guy is a staunch social conservative and yet he is going to be a Doctor and he speaks about 6 languages. He is not stupid at all.
C:\WINDOWS\truedatObviously. Still makes no sense to me why someone would want to be socially Conservative.

Hopefully this is the case, since 90% of socially conservative positions are stupid and the remaining 10% are even stupider.
It never bothers me that someone is socially conservative until they make a moral judgement about me. If I identify myself as pro-choice or of supporting gay marriage, at best, I get eye-roll and at worst, I get a sermon. Sometimes this comes form my own extended family. It's the same thing as religion. You are welcome to do your thing as long as I can do mine. The problem with feeling that way is that social conservatism is a significant part of the political system. I can listen to many social conservative politicians, because in their mind, I'm wrong, morally wrong, and I'm the one who needs to change. I apparently want to destroy tradittional marriage and want to kill babies.Depends, even among social conservatives there are different levels, but I don't think it will. Hopefully, that ideology is the plague of humanity, the sooner it dies the better. Nothing good has ever come from it.

Again that is a bit of a generalisation. Do you know every social conservative out there? Around where I live, it's the opposite. I don't agree with social conservatives on very much, but I am Pro Life and I've been preached to by many pro choice people, some gay people have been preachy with me as well because I chose not to go to a gay union.
I don't preach my views to other people, I try to live my life by being an example for people, by being a good person. Like abortion for instance, I find abortion disgusting and I find pro choice people to be on the wrong side of history, but I do not judge them.
Nor do I judge the women that have them. Instead I want to work with people to find alternatives, to help them be aware of different ways and why life is a sacred thing. I want children to be born, that is my goal, not to condemn people.
If it means marijuana becomes legal i could care less if pro gay multiple bi marriage is legal. America can crown obama king and romney queen for life as long as weed is legal uhhh that's social conservatism stopping that right?playmynutz
Yes to answer your question
Also, I like the idea of King Obama and Queen Romney
Neoconservatives aren't conservative.
Conservatives - Monarchism, Aristocracy, Federalism, Fascism
Liberals - Classical, Modern, Neoconservatism
Socialism can fall under either.
As long as I am alive you can be certain that there is at least one person who is pro-life.mindstormYou realize pro lifers don't abort every pregnancy they have right?
Yeah it probably will. Most people aren't capable of self control which is what conservatism is all about. It is kind of sad. I really think humanity is on the verge of being something greater than the animals that most people are. Unfortunately, people keep proving me wrong by killing off their children, taking mind altering substances for fun, and having uncontrolled sex.
That's not what being non-conservative is about. I can already see that you're a conservative nutjob by that silly 100% anti communist sig.Unfortunately, people keep proving me wrong by killing off their children, taking mind altering substances for fun, and having uncontrolled sex.

The only process of subhumanising derives from the nihilistic, sensual commodified human depravity, praised by liberalism as the emancipation of the self.

I think many of the social issues are valid on both sides... but Gay marriage and gay people should not be an issue. You favor civil unions? So you favor other people not having what you have? Its 2012, being gay is not a choice, and if two people love each other, they should be able to legally say "we are a married couple". I would love to drag you into the 21st century, as well as anyone else who actuallty has anything anti-gay to say in the slightest. I cant wait till all this old-fashioned thinking dies off.
As long as I am alive you can be certain that there is at least one person who is pro-life.mindstorm
It's troubling that words such as "liberal" and "conservative" have had their meanings grossly distorted by politickers. It makes it difficult to have any kind of coherent and meaningful discussion about politics.LaihendiWell yes and no. Liberal and conservative have always meant wildly different things for different states and different situations. But the American definitions are getting pretty strange, what example were you thinking of in particular?
