Entire SNL episodes are generally never funny.By refusing to make fun of Obama and anyone associated with him, they've seriously limited themselves when it comes to potential new material and ideas.

I'm pretty sure it's because of the 30 Rock live show. They used the SNL stage and it was great. Emma Stone I think is going to do next week's show.
