I'm a huge fan of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy and have seen the movies several times, even having seen the Dark Knight Rises 3 times in theaters. So of course I want to buy the trilogy when it comes out on Blu-Ray but here's kind of a dilemma. The blu-ray trilogy box set with some special features comes out December 8, so you'd think I'll buy that right away (and I planned on it) but then I heard that Warner Bros. is releasing an 'Ultimate Collector's Edition' of the trilogy around Fall of 2013 which is supposed to contain more special features, extra footage from the trilogy, etc. (yes, I care about these special features). If you were me would you buy the trilogy release that comes out this December or would you wait until the fall of next year for the Ultimate Collector's Edition? I know no one would want to just buy both since it's just a ploy for the studio to get everyone to do that so they can cash in on such a successful franchise, but would it be stupid to just buy the first box set, then sell it when the Ultimate Collector's Edition comes out on and buy that? I really want to own the trilogy boxed set but I don't feel like waiting an extra 9 months nor do I want to buy both editions and waste money (although I'd very much prefer the Ultimate Collector's Edition between the two). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Anyway here's the article with all the details of the boxed set. Apparently the first release includes a booklet called "The Art and Making of the Dark Knight Trilogy."

I'm sure they'll release 5+ versions since they know they can milk it big time.

I would wait, just like how I'm waiting for the Ultimate Harry Potter Blu-Ray set to be released

Just so you know, there won't be any "extra" footage in this ultimate bundle. While I could be wrong, I'm pretty sure that's what I read. Rumors went out saying that there would be a deleted scene that explains Bane's origin. That scene was indeed shot, but didn't make the final cut. This is just Nolan being Nolan - he doesn't ever include bonus scenes. What you saw in theaters is what you'll end up watching on Blu-Ray. You'll only get behind-the-scenes type featurettes, which is good enough for me! Definitely getting the Blu-Ray.

I couldn't agree more, we shouldn't have to wait 9 months just to be able to buy the same one again. Way to take advantage of the fans...

I might just get the first edition. All 3 movies in HD in one nice box for only $30, 2013 is a long way away, and we don't even know how much that edition will cost.

I'm not a huge fan so the once coming out this december should be fine for me.

Does anyone know if the extras are coming with the DVD box set? So the blu ray and DVD box set have the same thing, right?

If the Ultimate Collection has extra footage and is under 50 bucks, I'm in. If not, no way.

Quoting myself. I might as well just get the Blu-ray just in case and use my ps3. Second question! Does anyone know if the blu ray box set with the close up of the cowl is the US version?

Haha. Why lose respect for anyone? Are you seriously upset that they are selling movies that people want to buy?

Why lose respect? This is a cash in at the disadvantage of fans. If they wanted us to make an informed choice, tell us what is in the Ultimate Collection. For all we know, it just has more behind the scenes stuff. But what if it has director's cuts? Then we'd be suckered into the new one, after buying the first one. They are purposely deceiving us. I just think it's a cheap and lame move.

Stuff like this is clearly a cash grab. They could easily release everything in the first edition. No, it is not deception. They are simply making products available for purchase. It makes no sense for a company to decide to not sell products in a way that makes their customers (investors) money.

It is a deception. By not telling us what's in the Ultimate collection, we can't make an informed decision on whether or not to wait. We're blind. It's a great business movie, but a poor ethical one.

I'd probably just go with the one that's coming out first, since I usually don't care about collectors editions.

Well I already have TDK on Blu-ray, so I guess I'll just buy TDKR myself and that's it.

Will said special features make Rises a more enjoyable movie?
