death of video rental stores....

I'm going to be sad seeing them all go...first Hollywood and soon Blockbuster. There are no others left in my area.

I remember being a small boy going with my dad on Friday nights to rent the latest movie and picking up a pizza on the way home...

or riding bikes down after school with a group of friends to rent the latest games...

redbox and netflix just don't bring the same excitement....

ah well...good memories I was hoping to share with my children but alas,

I don't mind them dying off, the blockbusters here have always been ridiculously expensive. 4 pounds for a 24-hour rental of a premiere movie, wat. Might as well double it and make an experience out of it in cinemaxx.

i was sad to see gamecrazy go..but i never really rented from Hollywood or Blockbuster...maybe once in awhile...now i have netflix though so :P..

Who cares? Netflix > Blockbuster. No more late fees, woooo!

Still got a blockbuster by me. It's been there many years. I almost never see anyone in there, so I wonder how they stay in business or if they'll last much longer They have a fair selection of blu rays and PS3 games too. The blu rays literally NOBODY ever checks out, I actually scoured the shelf looking for one that was "out" but couldn't even find one. That's not a good sign. The video games are almost as bad, but at least a few of them are checked out. Not enough for me to think they are making any money though.2Chalupas

Somehow the two Blockbusters near me continue to stay open.

I'm glad, I don't want to deal with GameFly since I've heard they're really slow and when I want to watch a movie, I prefer to run out and watch it instantly. Not wait a few days. :P

you know none have died off where I live save for the one in the convienence store, but the rest seem to be going strong. I would appreciate them taking some movies off the "new release section though. They have movies in that category that that have been out since last year.

I have stepped into a video rental store since I was about 7 or 8. I like Netflix much better anyway since the movies get delievered right to my house and there's tons of stuff I can watch online if I really wanted to.

yea I have fond memories of just browsing Blockbuster for like an hour with my folks and fighting with my sister over what movie to get.

Nostalgia aside, though, its just the way things are going. I love Netflix like 1000x more than I ever did Blockbuster, and my friends swear by Redbox or whatever its called.

Good times, but they wont be missed to dearly. I don't know how I ever got by without Netflix and Instant Streamed movies. I've watched so many full series that I never got to watch on tv, and I always get the latest movies in the mail. So convenient. :)

Ive literally watched like 2.5 seasons of Arrested Development in the past five days.

NetFlix and cheaper DVDs for purcahse started the decline of rental stores, but RedBox is the dagger that it slowly killing them. Seriously, so much more convinent and much cheaper.

99 cent rental at the Redbox is a much better deal than the 4.99 plus at Blockbuster/Hollywood. They brought it on themselves with their ridiculous pricing. hockey73

I know exactly what you mean but times are a changing. Going and picking out a movie was so much fun. It would always take me so long to make a decision.

Which would you choose - no late fees and keep the movie as long as you want - or pay up just because you got there a little late?

The rental stores could have waived late fees, and that would have brought in more business, but they didn't.

TBH, I purchase DVD movies online. I'd rather own them than rent them.

Meh, never really had any good memories from Blockbusters. Netflix is just sooo much better.

Only the chain stores are going out of business. Independent stores are still doing fine since they usually stock movies that the major chains and websites won't (things like foreign films, silent films, indie films, and of course porno which always helps profits :P)gameguy6700
