Denying our own impulses is denying the very thing that makes us humans

Ok, ok. Let's say it is right. So any human that has a specific impulse reflects the human nature. I could just stop here, but let's say more than 1 person is needed to have a specific impulse so it is a part of our nature.

we can now define our nature, but i'll only mention some of the parts in which we relate the less with other living beings:

We have sexual atractions towards our own gender, we sexually take advantage of newborns, we kill for pleasure and we live to eat food. We like denying our origins and close our eyes to our impact on our planet.

Even though there's onlya minority of people who have these impulses, there's at least more than 1 person to have each if not all.

This is our nature (partly)

Now excuse me while I fetch a coke and a chocolate bar.

Theimpulses you are talking about are most likely driven by natural shared urges (sex drive etc) but shaped by culture, gluttony for example probablyoriginates from a survivalinstinct to feed but is shaped by profit diven capitalist cultures.

Are you saying that as a human it is in my nature to want to molest children and kill the planet? That's probably not what you were implying but what exactly are you trying to say?

I reckon that phrase is only partly true (there's more to humanity than impulses)

i'm not saying that every1 has those stupid impulses. but those who have them are indeed human as far as i can tell. so that means that HUMANS (general temr ehre) have those impulses, even if its in reality a small minority

yes, we are more than impulses. really? even the act of thinking is an impulse, it just that we put more effort and time into it. it's still our impulse to think about things as it is to breathe and eat. but i'mt rying to get here is that nowadays people are trying to make it natural when it shouldn't be.

Depends. Blocking all is denying you're humanity since you would be dead. No impulses means no hunger, thirsts etc.

Denying our own impulses is denying the very thing that makes us humans

I think this phrase reflects upon our most generic impluses, excluding such accurate depictions like the sexual abuse of an infant.

Such generic impulses is our impulse to be omnivorous.

Our impulse to fall for someone.

Our impulse to fight for our beliefs.

Our impulse to believe in something.

Our impulse to find the answer.

I don't think there was any dispute that humans can display those impulses. If you question a person's humanity because he has weird impulses then you are delving into human essentialism which can be very problematic.

As for human's being more than impulses I would argue that a rational agency is more than just an impulse. It's in our instinct to want to survive and procreate hence Mouse's woman in the red dress. But the cool thing about the human mind is that we are capable of ignoring those impulses, consciously or not. Irrationality goes beyond impulse and into the abstract and from there we getawesome stuff like suicide, selflessnessandhomosexuality which are all useless in an impulse driven world.

Of course I'm pulling all of that from nowhere so please correct me if I am wrong
