Denzel Washington has the higher profile but I just don't get why he wastes a lot of his talent on stupid action movies. Man on fire was terrible. I don't know if The Book of Eli will be any better. Having said that I did like him in American Gangster recently.

My problem with Denzel is that he tends to play the same kind of very intense character. He hasn't gotten a chance to show off his acting skils in a different role yet. Forest Whitaker was great in Ghost Dog, The Great debaters, The Air I breathe, and The Crying game. However he is also in crap like Our Family Wedding.
I have to give my vote to Denzel. Even though Whitaker is a great actor as well, Denzel has more memorable performances (Remember The Titans, The Siege, American Gangster, etc).
Denzel has a FAR more impressive resume. It's not even close. I will say I loved Whitaker in The Last King of Scotland, but that's only one exceptional movie I've seen him in. Denzel has been in a ton of great movies I really loved, like John Q, Training Day, and Man on Fire. Man, Man on Fire is ON FIRE!
I like Denzel a lot more. He's probably my favorite actor actually. It doesn't matter if he is a bit one dimensional; he does a damn good job in every movie he is in.
