What's something that'll help when you're feeling depressed and wanting to end your life?

Is there any way to feel better once you feel as if you've hit rock bottom?

I've never found anything that helps me with that problem. I wait for it to pass. Actually, doing something to try and correct it often leads to me feeling worst than I all ready do.

True. A homeless man I saw the other day held a sign up that said "Smile, it could be worse." I always think of that whenever I'm sad. It helps for a bit.

look at depressing pictures of people in 3rd world countries and tell yourself " at least its not that bad" , pretty much compare your life to someone that has it worse off to you, and laugh at their misfortune. what happened tho?

These things only really pass with time, the best you can do is try to make that time as easy as possible on yourself. Find some music you can listen to to get your mind off everything, do things you love doing, keep your true friends close. I was pretty bad for a period of time, but got through it. You just have to remember things will get better eventually :)

I vote for this also...both of them work quite well...especially combined.

Depends on the cause of the depression. If it is biological there's really not too much you can do besides medication. If it is cause by circumstances, you can either try to get to the source of it and change the situation. If it is a situation you can't change then, I would try to look at it in a different angle/perspective. I'll try to be proactive about the situation instead of feeling helpless and being reactive

Thank you for the good advice. I wish I could listen to music but I have no speakers on this computer and my iPod is dead.. I feel at the moment that I only have one true friend, and she's in Japan until school starts. But you're right..things'll get better eventually...just gotta keep reminding myself that.

My advice would vary depending upon your situation. Is there anything making you depressed, an event, a person, a situation? (PM to me if you're uncomfortable chatting openly.) If you simply have the literal chemical imbalance of depression, it's very difficult to cure without medication, short term advice would be to minimize stress levels, do everything in your power to remain healthy and take a lot of time out to experience what you're passionate about and enjoy. Reminding yourself of why life is worth living to you is essential.

When you narrow it down, most people only have 1 or 2 true friends who will stick around through everything. Knowing that they'll always be there is a great feeling though

By the way, I see a few people saying things like "it will pass" or "distract yourself." Occasionally this may help with hormonal depression brought about during puberty, in all other cases: avoid this advice like the plague. Not facing the core issues and bottling them up will only serve to exacerbate your ordeals.

Friends.

Also, please don't dismiss my next suggestion, and don't think you lack the energy for it:

Help others. Do charity work. Put your worries on helping others rather than finding help for yourself. You might find that not only are you helping others, but that, in so doing, you're also helping yourself. I've been depressed before, and I found that a lot of my feeling down had to do with feelings of worthlessness. But when you help others, you feel like you're making a difference---that you matter; that you do, in fact, have plenty of worth. The depression recedes, and those you help will be inclined to return your favor. It's a positive feedback loop.

I don't know what kind of depressed I am.. whenever I hear about my friends making plans without me, it adds on to how I'm feeling already. When my best friend hangs out with my boyfriend, I get like this also. Things that are not that big of a deal trigger it, which isn't like me. But I was already feeling sad in the first place.. so I don't know. Everything just builds up and I feel useless.

Something that I think would help you with your depression would be to drink massive amounts of alcohol, and to be more specific, Jack Daniel's Whiskey.

Thats just a temporary fix which in overall effect would be counter-productive in your type of situations, while in contrast would be something awsome to someone who is a freshman in college.

I feel the same way. I was pretty depressed in 08. But I've over came it down the road. I find if I try and do something about it it will make me feel worse or if I tell myself I'm fine I usually relise I'm liying to myself.

That sounds like Schadenfreude. :P Anyways, just do something that can get your mind off of it like listening to music, watching tv, playing games, etc. Or it could be helpful to talk to someone about it.

That is difficult to deal with, but if these rather shady behaviors are being exhibited by your friends, and you're to follow my advice, your so-called friends might be a piece of your problem. It's horrific to even ask yourself these questions, but they're essential to facing the truth and ultimately remedying your troubles. Are your friends, really your friends? Do they really like you? Surrounding yourself with people who secretly may dislike you is very damaging to ones selfesteem and I assure you that I do not wish to incur paranoia upon you, I merely hope you will look inside and see whether or not those you associate yourself with uplift or diminish you.

And don't say things that aren't that big of a deal trigger it. The little things can pile on very high, very fast, and overwhelm you. Especially if you're a teenager. Were you just sad in the first place or are things making you sad? What would make you happy? Ponder over what happiness is to you, and achieve it. Which may seem horribly daunting, but if you're in some awful mire, it's the only way to get out sometimes.... as cheesy as that may sound.

This is true, but it's tough to give other advice when you don't know what exactly is causing it...ethanpaige

Hence I am prying, to see what may be the root of her emotional discord.

Excercise, psychotherapy, and anti-depressants.

If you're really having suicidal ideation, you need to see a psychiatrist as soon as possible. Go to the ER right away if you've formulated a plan. Suicidal thoughts aren't something to mess around with.

You can try talking to friends and family. They always have your back!

Wait, except your friends!
