Laptop is more versatile but make sure to do research on your laptop . My hp dv6's motherboard went out in six months

Laptops are more useful. Being able tio take notes in class/work in a library with a computer is rather helpful.

Both. I took a laptop to lectures and used it to work on assignments while at uni. At home, I used the desktop for everything else.

It's tuff to beat the portable computing convenience of a laptop. Plus, who has room in their dorm room for a desktop?

Laptop is essential for portability purposes. A desktop is entirely unnecessary, unless you plan on playing more games than studying.

I use both. Desktop in my apartment and my netbook for classes. I had a 17" laptop during my first year that I used for both gaming and school work, but after the year ended I sold the laptop and due to good grades and the cash i made over the sale, I bought a new desktop and a netbook :) But if you aren't into serious gaming, a laptop will do. Just don't get a mac :P

I prefer a laptop just because I can take it to school and do homework there rather than at home or wherever you stay.

Laptop. You're going to need the space in your cramped dorm room.

Laptop. Mobility is where it's at unless you're planning on going to college to become a professional bum and stay in your room all day playing video games and drinking. Okay that might be a bit harsh but really, you're gonna want a laptop.

Laptop. You'll be like "OMG. Laptops are so amazing." But if you want to game, I recommend getting a desktop. I'm trying to pay for one myself >_>

Since I had my own apartment when I was going to school I had both but ended up not really taking a laptop to school and would just go home and do my work. I was a bare minimalist for class. I would end up bringing the textbook crammed full of papers and a pen.

I have both! Gotta have the desktop for gaming and the Laptap to take and use in class and at the library. Oh and my Archos tablet I'll be getting a few days to use as an E-reader/ email checker!

Laptop. I don't think I've seen anyone with a desktop yet.
