Dexter is a TV series on Showtime (18+ adults only) about a twisted serial killer who kidnaps and kills other serial killers. If you haven't seen it yet, don't read the spoiler (about the season finale) cause it'll ruin this awesome series for you.
I'm really curious to know what you guys felt (happy / sad / etc...) when Dexter was murdering his brother Bryan?
I really don't see all the fuss about Dexter; I watched the whole season and there are some good points but certainly not enough to justify the critical adulation I see it getting. Serial killers as pop culture phenomenon kind of peaked over a decade ago, and the guy who plays Doakes is so ridiculously over the top that I am sorely tempted to skip over his scenes. The "dark humor" feels pretty forced to me, and the godawful monologues go past purple prose into ultraviolet. I doubt I'll be tuning in for season 2.

For psycho serial killing, we have a movie: American Psycho "Is that a raincoat?" "Yes it is!"

Dexter's Laboratory = My soul force... next to Invader Zim. However, they should do a show about Johnny the Homicidal Maniac.

don't mind them, there are a lot of kids on GS, they are not of age to watch showtime, so they just want to get some attention in this 18+ topic.

Although TV production is getting good in general. But I like the change these controversial concepts brings to the table. It's like American Psycho or Lolita (the movies) but having the lead character walk free at the end.

Such pictures gives you the opportunity to question your moral standards (and others as well when you discuss those subjects with them).

P.S. I do understand however that some people might prefer watching [psychologically] safe movies. I too also have certain subjects that disturbs me that I always find myself avoid watching. For instance I find "jackass" the movie way more disturbing than both Dexter and American Psycho.

Maybe its just that I'm old enough to have settled moral questions to my satisfaction (Dexter is as evil as those he kills), but I don't find it compelling at all.

I see your point, you like watching boring stuff (and by boring stuff I mean watching the whole 1st season of Dexter ;) ).

Some people are too cool to admit they like something, so they shield themselves by criticizing it.

I don't mean you in this last sentence, I'm just pointing out that what you said in this topic sounded like coming from a person that falls under that category of people.

Thanks for clarifying, so that I didn't get all in a huff ;) I like a lot of TV, and a lot of the TV I like is what I would call vapid (24 and Heroes, looking at you). For me, the difference is that those shows act like they see themselves more or less the same way I see them, whereas I feel like Dexter considers itself a lot more thought-provoking and serious than I do. Ditto for Battlestar Galactica, for that matter. And wrap a great big IMO around this post.
