What did you think about it?
I thought it was a pretty good movie, though watching it in 3D is nothing special since there's like, 4 effects...

Monsters vs. Aliens!
...In 3D!
A thorougly enjoyable but incredibly by-the-numbers affair in which nothing will suprise you and everything that happens is entirely predictable to all but those very, very young. Although I'm not much of a fan of Pixar films I did enjoy it despite its routine nature which I can only chalk up to Pixar's turnabout on churning out pure fetch and chase adventures and instead focusing on odd characters and/or compelling growth from said characters.
Sadly what growth there is as far as the characters go is fairly shoved along without much thought and so is somewhat unsatisfying. There also a touch of misandry in the film but I chalk this up to the writers hurrying along their female empowerment story and just being slightly sloppy as there are plenty of reliable males to be found.
The casting is pretty darn good although I've heard a lot of grumbling about Reese Witherspoon not being as up to the task as the other stars but personally I think that was more the fault of the writers and not Miss Witherspoon's. Stephen Colbert as the President of the U.S. really steals the show and it's hard not to fixate on his every word and action when he's on the screen.
I can't say it's a must see film but if you have the chance to see it in 3D I would say it's definitely worth a look see as the film is crazy gorgeous in 3D! Everything character and every environment is just so amazing to watch that I would imagine it would be hard to watch on a normal screen. The scope is impressive and the scenes in which Susan is running from the giant alien robot has such an amazing sense of scope and scale that it's hard not to feel fully immersed in the world the movie has created.
There's a lot of good humor in the film as well with quick one-liners stabbing out here and there, but a lot of the humor stems from the viewer being a fan of old '50s horror and sci-fi films so there's lots of extra laughs to be had for those fans. Overall I would say if you can catch it in 3D you will probably think it's quite keen, but without that element I would say it's just average.
6.5/10

It's Dreamworks, not Pixar. And yeah, "by-the-numbers" is a very good way to describe it.
I saw it with my little brother. I went in the theater expecting a crappy animated film, with crappy animated 3d effects. I was actually pleasantly surprised when I left. It was a fairly decent movie with some good laughs.
