I must say I that I did have hope that McCain would win. I thought there were still enough inteligent, hardworking people left in this country to prevent the evil that is in the white house now.

After the close of the conventions, yes. By the time November arrived, no.

I didn't think that any republican had a shot in 2008, regardless if it was McCain, or Romney, or Huckabee, or Giuliani, or Paul or whomever. Add that with the fact that McCain ran a horrible campaign (especially compared to Obama's, which was nothing short of flawless) and you have a pretty substantial victory for Obama.

Yeah, I did, during the summer. Then in the fall when Obama got way ahead in the polls and in the estimated electoral outcome... Yeah.

Um...the correct spelling is "intelligent" actually. And yeah there were a lot of people who thought McCain would win. Nobody who was following the polling mind you, but there WERE people who thought he would win.

Once you hit mid October it was a forgone conclusion (although you could say once the economy started to crap out it was over too). Most of the swing states were leaning Obama's way and even traditionally republican states were leaning Obama's way and he was campaigning there. You're just never going to be weak on your home turf like that, win them all, and enough of the swing states.... let alone that McCain went all negative for a good five weeks.

not really, if he picked a better candidate for vice president, he would have a little more of a chance to win. But Obama still would have won anyway...

Nah. McCain was ahead of Obama before he picked Palin as his VP. Had he picked Romney or Huckabee, I think he woulda won.

Realistically, the campaign was over post-Katrina. The Democrats could have run a quadraplegic, brain-dead monkey with anthrax against any Republican candidate and won; it was just in the cards.

Sure, around the time of the conventions I thought it would be a toss up. But once the market started to tank, and McCain came out with a different economic message daily it was all downhill.

Honestly, it's not McCain's fault. Unless Jesus Christ himself came down and declared himself Republican nominee, there's no one who could have won this one for the Republicans. No one.....though were it possible (if he was born in America), sometimes i wonder about Arnold Schwarzenegger....people may just be crazy enough to have gone for that..... Huh..i just equated Arnold to Jesus unintentionally. Well to be fair, Commando was awesome. Anyway, it's too bad, as I really do believe that McCain would've been 10x the president that Bush was. Too late for him now though.

Right, statistically there is a switch in political party control when there is a recession.

McCain did win. He killed Obama, put on an Obama mask and is sitting in the White House even as we speak, cackling over the success of his nefarious Republican plans.

arnold can't really run until the US decides to annex Austria suddenly... even then i don't think he would be able to on a technicality.

I did when Obama and Hil-dog were bashing each other. I thought Clinton's supporters would switch to McCain while the Republican's stayed united.

I think that McCain sank his ship when he signed on Palin as he VP running mate. I knew he wouldn't win after I saw her first interview.
