New research suggests we evolved from a primitive species of shark that lived 300 million years ago. Acanthodes bronni is now believed to be the common ancestor of all jawed vertebrates including humans. The creatures were quite small at around one foot in length, had gills instead of teeth and would have fed on plankton. Fossils have been discovered in many parts of the world including Europe and North America. "Unexpectedly, Acanthodes turns out to be the best view we have of conditions in the last common ancestor of bony fishes and sharks," said Professor Michael Coates. "It helps to answer the basic question of what is primitive about a shark. And, at last, we are getting a better handle on primitive conditions for jawed vertebrates as a whole." linky EVOLUTION FTW!

Well... I guess somewhere down the line they developed lungs and became lungfishes.

Just go far enough back in time and you could say we developed from almost anything. :P

Sharks are cartilaginous fish. It would have been more believable if they had said "primitive whale" because a whale is a mammal :l

Partially? We got a course here called microbiology and I know that one is pretty much all about prokaryotes. Well at least the first impression I have from it is that. Yet to take the course.

I know a degree you would of course study other subjects to..

Birds and reptiles are extremely closely related in many aspects despite the apparent lack of exterior similarity.

Why is this so hard to believe? If all life evolved from Single Cell organisms in the ocean than there is bound to be an aquatic common ancestor of fish and mammals.

The fact that people dismiss it so easily is quite dumbfounding. Makes me wonder if anyone actually read the article. "Acanthodes, a Greek word for "spiny", existed before the split between the earliest sharks and the first bony fishes the lineage that would eventually include human beings". Not hard to believe that before the species that evolved that eventually would move onto land, there was another species such as the one in the article that came before it.

Considering the fact that all life on this planet came from single celled organisms and all life shares parts of DNA code, it's not really as far fetched as it sounds. The fact people dismiss it so quickly is saddening

the article didn't claim we came from sharks, but claims we share common ancestry based off of findings of the teeth and spine in that one fish they talk about... doesn't surprise me though TC got it wrong saying we evolved from sharks, I mean just like people say humans came from monkeys get it wrong, we share common ancestry, not evolved from them

I heard we evolved from Dinosaurs , then transformed into Dragons and then we were fishes, and a giant birthday cake, then 400 million years later we melted and evolved into humans.
