Every person I talk to and my friends all liked this movie. Rotten tomatoes seems to agree.

I don't get it. It was a terrible film! A completely predictable plot, stereotypical heroes and villians, and stale special effects ruined it for me.

If anybody agrees/disagrees with me then please post.

I didn't hate it like you did, but I wasn't impressed either. Thought it was pretty mediocre.

That said, Hellboy II looks pretty awesome.

I can understand your stance though, because I wasn't very fond of Iron Man. Everyone including reviewers loved it cept for me it would seem.

I am with you 100%. I usually love everything, but with Hellboy, something just doesnt work with me. I think the whole story, the characters, and the artwork are very dark / bland

It's a superhero movie. That's like going to see a Russian film and complaining that it's too slow.

The special effects may not have been technically perfect, but I greatly appreciated the style going into it, particularly the makeup effects that were robbed at nomination time. The movie was quite good if you ask me. Not brilliant, but highly entertaining and well worth watching. Plus, Ron Perlman kicked copious amounts of ass.

I wasn't crazy about it either. Robert Downey Jr. was great (as always) and, in fact, the script was a homerun. Unfortunately, Jon Favreau just isn't a very good director. The visuals were sloppy and the action scenes absolute duds. I'm too anal about visual direction to forget it.

All the same, I didn't think it was mediocre. It was just mediocre in one crucial aspect.

Hellboy's supposed to be a bit cheesy, I think. At least, that was the impression I got.

I also can't hate something Ron Perlman's in.

I loved it.

Great plot, decent acting, very good visual effects, and good bad guys. That nazi with the blades and no eyelids was creepy and badass.

Ya, Ron Perlman is awesome. Did you see him in that Masters of Horror miniseries? He was awesome; played a hardcore christian dude trying to prevent his daughter from getting an abortion, but then she gave birth to the antichrist. He was really convincing as a religious nut.

A really effective villain, but it wasn't too good.

Actually, partway through this post I'm thinking back to it, and I think it's actually a lot better than I remember. I think I'll give it another watch.

Probably because it was a funny movie.

Actually, I think that's one of the big reasons why I didn't like it. Hellboy seemed like he was supposed to be a funny wisecracking guy sort of like a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle (he even stops to eat pizza with a gawking little kid..."OMG, I can't believe I ate pizza with HELLBOY!"). The only problem was that anytime he said something that was supposed to be funny, or wheneer something happened that was supposed to be funny, I wasn't laughing.

I think that's also one of the things that I hated most about Alien REsurrection. All the forced humour and "funny" moments.

Hey, it's not like Aliens didn't hae its share of comedy. But the thing is, in Aliens, most of the funny came from Hudson, and Hudson was scared as ****. Half of Hudson's funniness came from me laughing at how much of a coward he was, and the other half was humour done out of desperation. It seemed like Hudson was funny BECAUSE of the situation that he was in. While most of the comedy in Alien Resurrection seemed to happen in spite of the situation that the characters were in.

it is the weakest of the series by far, but i dont hate it like everyone else did. I am one of the few who preffered Alien 3 to Aliens. I like the atmosphere and lack of weapons interesting.

So, basically, one was well-thought out and written with, you know, an audience in mind, and the other was just to rake in some last bit of cash with whatever crappy story they could buy at the flea market?

Hellboy = Aliens series. Go figure.

Well whatever. Alien and Aliens were fantastic. Absolute greats. 3 and resurrection are garbage.

Anywho, I guess what makes me so mad about the Hellboy series is how everybody seems to like it when comparable movies were head and shoulders above it and got rated much lower.

I'll point to Underworld. An interesting movie, but a tad cliche and cheesy. Still better than Hellboy in my opinion.
