This is a sensitive subject, but I'm just passing a few questions to see what people think. I have no agenda with this topic, so please don't think i'm trying to insinuate something. But:

Were America and Allied forces smart entering Ira?

Regardless, was it worth leaving Iraq in the dire situation with no real hope, in order to end the rule of one Dictator?

Was Iraq in danger of ever threatening our freedom?

It seems to me, that if you answer all of these questions 'no' then one must ask: What did the soldiers die for?

P.S. I admire the soldiers brave efforts, and I really admire what they fought for. I am merely looking to see the way that everyone views the situation.

I don't think they fought to protect our country as there was no proven threat, so yes i think they died for next to nothing.

Iraq never attacked the U.S., so it's pretty questionable as to why we're over there. At first it was to "stop terrorism," not it's to "bring freedom to Iraq." I would love to say that we have done some good, but I haven't seen any results.

They died to avenge the losses of 9/11, To put fear into the terrorists, to make sure they never attack us again, thats what it was alll about. Rumors were that Iraq was harboring terrorists, so we had to go in, and see if they had any terrorists. What many people dont realize is that the people attacking troops are not the Iraqi people, its the Afghanistan's, and Pakistani rebels. The Iraqi people are actually happy we are there, When Saddam was caught the IRaqis celebrated by taking down his statue.

Yes and no.

Yes, because a democracy will never take hold in Iraq. They will never truly grasp the concepts of freedom and such. It won't be a pro-America government. In fact, it will probably end up being a terrorist safe haven a few years after we leave.

However, warriors rarely fight for an ideal. Especially American warriors. We fight because we want to. We want to see where we measure up among history's warriors. We fight because we want to live. In fighting, you gain victory. If you achieve victory, you have a better chance of surviving. Finally, we fight for each other. Like any family, we bicker, quarell, and even fight. But, like any family, we know it doesn't matter because we love each other. So, in that sense, no, they did not die in vain. They died protecting their brothers and sisters.

So now do we up and leave in 16 months and leave the Iraqis high and dry like Obama has planned or continue to sink our economy by putting a lot of money and resources into rebuilding Iraq like McCain wants.

Don't be fooled that we're being more successful solely by the Surge, it's just that over a million Iraqi's have become refugees of other countries, and it's been 5 years now, the inner neighborhood violence/cleansing is all but over.

My father went to Afghanastan and my uncle went to Iraq and they say that the innocent people there dont want the soldiers to leave, despite what most of the media says. based on what they have said, i think that the soldiers who gave their lives over there died protecting these people and their rights from the terrorists that preferred to force their religion on others via violence by mass murder and suicide bombings.

for those of you who think it wasnt worth it think about this: if we didnt go to war with iraq, then saddam would still be runnning the country and more innocents would have died in his torture chambers becasue they had a difference in opinions.

the soldiers who died over there gave their lives to defend the innocent people from this ruthless dictator.

the army has better things to do than do what you mentioned. no dissrespect but what you said was ridiculous. keep in mind there have been a few immoral soldiers who may have done this (im not denying it), but do you really think that the sole purpose for the iraq war was to do all the things you said intentionall? no it was not. the sole purpse was to depose saddam who was killing his own people and supporting terrorism to maintain his power, and look for any weapons of mass destruction which could have been used to attack america, and which we thought iraq had.

Neo-ganon

We can't just go into a country without more support from other countries to carry some of the financial burden and manpower just because a dictator killed some innocents. Cause while Iraq was just being started, I wondered why we weren't in Darfur where genocide was taking place.

We caused a lot more deaths in Iraq than Suddam committed. Some death tolls are about 100,000 to over a million.

I think they died for nothing. You can never force democracy in a place like Iraq/Afghanistan. Before it was about WMD's, but now the States are doing nothing important in Iraq that will change every ones views.

Hussein murdered hundreds of thousands, oppressed his people, broke sanctions. Americans brought freedom and got rid of a brutal dictator who deserved to die. Of course they didn't die for nothing. I have to say that anyone who disagrees is dilerious with political bias to the point of idiocy.

uhh yeah and saddams death tolls reached several million. If you took the bodies of all the people he killed and lined them up side by side, they would be enough to connect the city of Puyallup to Seattle and back. trust me, I did my reasearch from my dad and uncle who went to iraq and afghanastan.

If we pulled out of Iraq right now, then Iraq would be a warzone in a matter of days. all the mass suicide bombings and riots that the iraqi government isnt doing anything about would cause complete and utter chaos in iraq with the death toll climbing to over 100,000 a year. it wouldnt take long for a saddam wannabe whos 10X as worse to take over and turn iraq back into the hell it was 5 years ago.

Would it be that much different? If some of the high estimates are right, over a million Iraqis have died in 5 years.

well get this, not all the civillian deaths are perpatrated by our soldiers. ever hear of suicide bombings or IED's? yeah they take up most of that so called death toll that we supposedly cause. Trust me when i say that our soldiers make every attempt to not hurt any civillians. I really dont think thats what every soldier wants to in iraq. they just wanna fight terrorists and survive each day.

Soldiers are people too. they are not these cruel and inhuman monsters that the media makes them out to be.

Media this, media that. "We're in Iraq for oil." "We're in Iraq to avenge those lost during 9/11." "We're in Iraq to bring democracy." You know, no one really knows why we're there, it seems. If it really was some noble attempt to remove a tyrant, why Iraq? There are nations around the world where innocents are being killed left and right, so why choose Iraq? If it was for the September 11th attacks, why didn't we follow through with the "You don't mess with Texas" rhetoric of GW and retrieve Osama before we pulled a bulk of our troops out of Afghanistan to liberate Iraq? A place where there were no real ties to Al Qaeda. If it was for oil, then why aren't we seeing a major benefit from the occupation of Iraq? Truth is, the American public doesn't know for sure. But I'd hardly say they died for nothing. I won't say they were there fighting to keep us free. You know? Fighting over there so we won't have to fight them here? Never that.

In my opinion, yes. They died in a war that never should have been started in the first place and was completely avoidable. We've lost more soldiers in Iraq than victims in the September 11th attacks.

[QUOTE="faisal123456"]You invade a country, steal a bunch of oil, destroy a culture disrespect a religion, kill innocent civilians, rape women and destroy homes, run over children playing, roll your tank on top of civilian cars on the roads, shoot people for fun and finally deny to leave a country after youv ruined it and most important you steal a man's solid gold ak47 and dragunov.... at the least you deserve to die but more aproprietly a public beheading or executioned by a firing squadCWEBB04z

that is soo not true, you know nothing of what goes on in Iraq, Im willing that the media feeds you this crap.

Actually, I think faisal123456 is pretty much spot on with his asessment. Ironically, you're the one who's just regurgitating media propaganda!

They died to avenge the losses of 9/11, To put fear into the terrorists, to make sure they never attack us again, thats what it was alll about.CWEBB04z

Believing that in 2003 was bad enough. Believing that in 2008 lies somewhere between daft and utterly reprehensible.

They were probably better under the dictatorship given there was a form of 'order', they had water, electricity.

I don't think they should have gone in there in the first place, especially under false pretenses -

having said that there is a mess that needs to be resolved somehow. If they leave too early then there is a chance of civil war etc.

Being a soldier means doing whatever your superior (or country, or politician) tells you to. THE SOLDIERS are NOT dying for nothing, they die for doing their job. Politics and causes aside, THE SOLDIERS do a good job.

All the "soldiers are following their orders thus they died for the service and not for nothing" bull**** aside. Yes, they kind of did...Saddam is just one of many brutal leaders I'd rather they went after North Korea or Iran.

Never that.bigdcstile

And that's what scares me the most.

For all the people who say "Why Iraq?" Why not Iraq? Are there other dictators in the world who are crazy? Yes! There are other countries who we knew were developing WMDs that we could have invaded? yes. However, please remember that Saddam had been playing hide the sausage with the weapons inspectors for a decade. Saddam was crazy. Regardless of what you think about the mistakes going in and handling it, those soldiers are over their trying to offer democracy aka Feedom to a country with you a** holes over here claiming they are dying for nothing. They died as heroes, and we need to finish the job in their honor. I try to be understanding most of the time, but i am ashamed to consider some of you people fellow americans.

Just b/c we view this war as accomplishing nothing or next to it, doesn't make us a*******. A lot of people have died over something that could have easily been avoided, or at the very least better prepared

Its kind of hard to not believe something you have seen first hand, and america isnt as free as you think and if its so free why is it illegal to say that the president should be killed. As well learn to form your opinion not bush's
