Did you ever record songs off the radio?

I was looking through some old stuff of mine and I actually found some old cassette tapes, filled with my favorite songs that I recorded off the radio back in the day. This actually brought back a lot of memories. I remember listening to the radio for my favorite songs to come on, and then trying to "capture" them by hitting the RECORD button as close to the beginning of the song as possible. I gotta admit timing was EVERYTHING with this cause I didn't want all the DJ chatter during the song. Not to mention not knowing what song comes on next, and then end up recording the wrong song so I had to rewind the tape to the end of the last song and trying it again. What a pain! But back then, it was totally worth it and I was so proud when i "finished" a tape!

Did anyone else do this back in the day?

There is program on Animal Planet named "River Monsters" where the British extreme fisherman catches monster river fishes. Where can I get the background music of this program ?

Well yes sure. Top 40 Sunday afternoons and the Friday Rock Show with Tommy Vance (UK). I know I still have the the eve of Donnington 86 FRS on tape at home somewhere. I should dust it off (literally) and whack it the JVC when I'm next back.

Not personally. I always was able to get music that I wanted. HoweverI had a friend that used to tape an underground metal station and we would listen than me and my brother would go out and buy the albums by the bands we liked. Discovered a lot of good music that way.

I did it back in the days before CDs were really big and I was a broke teenager. Today, I can afford to buy what I like but recording music pretty much went away when file sharing sites came out.

yup.. many nights i'd have to make sure to listen to countdowns on the radio and sprint over and hit record in time when the song i wanted started playing... then the a--hole dj would start talking over the end of the song and ---k it up.. i think i still have a few radio mix tapes floating around my house somewhere.

Topic just hit me over the head with the nostalgia bat. I remember listening all day for a single song to tape it only not to hear it and when I do its later in the day and I don't have a tape recorder handy. I also did the same with vhs tapes for MTV.

Oh man I used to do the same. I had like 30 tapes full of songs. I used to have when a dumb DJ would decide to talk in the middle of a song out of no where. I this brings back good memories.

I would sit in front the radio from the time my mom left to work till she came home. I usually got my songs within 2 days of searching

Too young to have ever needed to do that, but I'm sure I would have.

Hell yeah - nothing more rage inducing than getting your favorite song perfectly recorded right on the starting note, getting most of the song, and then the dumb*ss radio DJ speaking over the last 7 seconds of the track.

All the time when I was a kid. Taped songs off the radio....Recorded vinyl onto cassette tapes. My walkman had auto-reverse, baby! Didn't even have to flip the tape over. The other kids were all mad jelly.

and whats even worse is when the DJ starts jabbering away while the singer is STILL SINGING! O_O

I did back in the days of cassettes. Listening to the top 40 with my fingers hovering over the record and pause/stop buttons. Ahh memories.
