Did you spend a lot on your PC, and was it worth the spam?

Family PC owner, budget to consider. Had to buy a Malwart-on-special PC, complete with pre-installed demo progs and spam. Would love to be able to afford a custom rig, but we only find the stuff that Mikesoft and Upple offer us. I am avoiding trademark legalities there. Even the sick rigs we've seen have all that pre-installled junk for company profit included.

In a world where all humans are expected to own a PC by now, are we being given much purchasing power, or only what PC companies allow us to buy?

Was that really your choice?

I just made a custom rig, i'ld advise reformatting the PC as soon as you get it if you get a prebuilt to wipe the crap off.

I spent about 900 dollars, self-built, and worth every penny. I went to Dell, configured a similiar rig...woulda cost me 1600 dollars!

If youre looking for a new one, I highly recommend building your own. Do some research first, but if you can plug stuff into sockets and use a screwdriver, its really as easy as doing that.

Not to mention fun and rewarding

Prebuilts are full of free trials, they usually get payed by the software developers to put it on but i know that PPC World gets Norton or Mcaffee on to all thier PCs because Symantec owns a large share of the company

I was on a budget when I bought my computer, so I had to get a pre built and modify it to my liking. I just deleted all those extra programs, so I dont have a problem with them

Wal Mart, Microsoft, Apple. They're not going to come after you for saying their name.

My first PC was semi-custom built by some bloke who couldn't find his arse with both hands and a map. It worked well enough, but it was essentially just a clean install of XP which he then left as "finished" so didn't have any drivers or any essential programs (word processor, flash player, codecs, etc.). My second PC was an Acer I got dead cheap for being discontinued, second hand and last model in the shop at PC World. That crashed on me and due to it not coming with a recovery disc was the last straw with all the Acer emPower crap that didn't work. Third PC I built myself and has NEVER failed me since (touch wood). Was the same price as the Acer too. I also have a laptop which I got for my 21st. It came with Vista and a load of bloatware preinstalled, which I sorted out fine, but this thing hated Vista. After one time when I booted it up and it reduced all resolutions and colour to the minimal settings (400x600 and 8 bit graphics or something stupid) I gave up, bought a new HDD and XP. It has the occasional hiccup but it's not been as bad as it was with Vista.

That is what I mean-especially with Vista. heard so many Vista owners hate on the OS, that I don't want it. I used to run a PC with Win98SE, I finally got all the bugs out and felt like a king or something for awhile. but when it took The Big Dirt Nap, there was no way to get another familiar 98SE- ONLY WinXP or Vista- 2 OS I'd have to re-learn all over again, also costing me more to get.

Are we always going to have to answer to only Microsoft or even Apple?
