I was thinking about trying to get into some simple digital art, for nice wallpapers and such, and I was wondering what programs should I look into? Any good recommendations on how to start?

Photoshop is good, but the learning curve is rather steep if you havnt used it or something similiar.

Get photoshop for dummies or something.

if you own an actual videocard there is this cool prgram on semiaccurate let me go get it. basically it gives your videocard a canvas to defecate on in rainbow colors and the results can be awesome. basically the result is rendered fractals at 800x600 that you can then resize accordingly
