Which is better?

EDIT: I'm confused...According to this site http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPage.jsp?assetId=1200032  they say that Directv DOES offer on-demand and that 99.96% of the time DIRECTV delivers a digital signal, rain or shine. Is this trustworthy info?

I have Directv HD satellite, and so far, there are no problems. Before I upgraded to the HD dish, the TV would go out when there was a bad storm, but with the new dish, it is completely reliable.

Yeah. My mom's getting Directv. I always liked digital cable better, but both still beat standard cable.

I have digital satellite.. cable isn't available here, and I've never had problems with satellite anyway. I've also had satellite TV all of my life, so I just wouldn't want to change even if I could

yes, i cant wait till my mother gets the DVR for the direct tv we have then we can atleast pause our pay per view movies, its suxs that we cant. I ordered the prestige, had to go the bathroom and didnt want to get up cause i didnt want to miss anything, plus on demand has so many movies to watch when ever and tv shows.

At work we've had DirecTV and some other satellite TV and they both are awful. I have Comcast at my house and its works fine. It doesn't lose the picture when it rains outside like with those overrated satellite TV services.

Yeah, we're getting the DVR with it. It seems pretty cool.

I think the answer to this question is going to depend a lot on the service providers in your area.

Sometimes one or the other will have exclusive packages that might sway you one way or the other. In my area digital cable owns. I can order any of like 500 movies whenever I want and have them available to fast forward, pause, rewind and restart for 24 hours, and the majority of those come included with my movie packages.

Cable as I've heard a lot of horror stories with satellite. Its also to expensive, at least for me. I'm 20, go to college, live at home, and a few weeks ago got an HDTV. Well I need the programming for it, so I asked my dad if I could add a few things to the bill but pay for it myself. He said sure. Well I got the HD-DVR box, HD programming, digital cable upgrade, HBO and Cinemax, for about $38 a month. If I did the same with Direct TV it would of been over $70 a month.

Honestly I don't think you're gonna get anybody to give you an unbiased answer.  If your sevice there's no reason to switch, and if you've had a bad experience you're probably gonna be a bit biased.

I've had bad cable experience so I like satalite (I have dish).  For the most part my dish goes down for the storms that they sound the civil defense sirens for back a couple years ago it would go out for just about any major rain, but it seems technology has gotten better.  One thing I love though it's not really satellite realated is the DVR, and I dunno how I lived w/out it.

You can get FREE HDTV for life with the right equipment. It might sound like a bad infomercial, but I switched from cable/satellite entirely to Over-The-Air digital broadcasting and now I have all the major networks plus a number of great free stations. With HDTV packages over $100 a month in most areas - particularly here in Boston - this saved us a boatload of cash.

If you're interested in getting HDTV over-the air, you'll need an antenna and receiver. Check out:

Directv w/ Tivo blows Time Warner away, my satellite has gone out once in 3 years, far less than cable.

Also, when I called TW to cancel my service, they asked me if I had a problem with the service and I said no, I have a problem with your prices. They said why didn't you tell us, we could have lowered your bill and you would've kept the same channels (full package) so I said "so you've been ripping me off all these years?" I'll never do business with TW again.

How exactly does DVR work? Like, can I fast forward virtually anything that isn't live? Like, what if there is a new episode of south park that is premiering for the first time on tv? Can I still fast forward through the commercials for that?

Has it really only went out once in 3 years? How often does it storm in your area? If this is true then that would be awesome.

FYI: You don't need an HDTV to enjoy digital signal for free over the air. Check out my Blog on the topic for more info! Best of luck.
