You should hold back on the EP.
Get a little bit of fuzz on the vocals and some reverb, and make some of the guitar parts not so generic sounding!

This is definately not bad, but it's incredibly generic.  Let's face it: any innovation in rock died in the mid nineties.  There is no reason why I would listen to your music over your influences.  You want my opinion as to why bands find it so hard to innovate these days?  It's because there is nothing more to innovate on.  It had to happen sometime, and now it has, imho.  The only thing to do now is to create new genres of music, which is never going to happen because you would need new instruments, which is never going to happen because every instrument imaginable has been made.  Rock is dead; heck music in general is dead because it's all imitation these days.  I know that's a tough truth to face, but hey, there is a relatively new form of entertainment that may not have yet reached its golden age: video games.  Try your hand at that!  Sure, I'll still be playing my guitar, maybe even join a band, because I myself cannot bring myself to completely accept that rock is dead.

Why, though? All of those "Overly Famous" bands have so much variety in their music, that there's no need to listen to indie bands, who are just rehashes of the famous bands. Led Zeppelin, for example, has hard rockers, folk songs, epic songs, ballads, experimentals, etc..

We are not trying to create anything new, or innovative.
We believe that music's  purpose is to bring people together and have a good time.
Music that tries to be "revolutionary" or "experimental" these days, usualy fail in the process and create something bleak and in most cases simply boring.
Real Rock'n'Roll is not art. It trenscends art in the fact that it makes us go back to our most primary instincts.

Here is a true fact: It is way more difficult , and requires real talent to create a catchy song, people can relate to, can dance to and can remember, than to write boring music that certainly does not appeal to most people. Pop music's purpose, in general, is not to innovate at any price, it is to appeal to as many people as possible.
And we believe that our music does that very well.

I should be a bit clearer; I was making two points. One, indie bands often have no variety in their music, even if they have a unique sound. Two, indie bands that do have variety in their music often have a generic sound. So, Elliot Smith may have a somewhat unique sound, but all his songs are depressing.

It's not advertising, more like making the forumites aware.

And your band is decent, I wouldn't say it would shoot up to #1 (no offense...) It seems too similar to Oasis, actually.

Famous bands and indie bands can have variety. The Pixies were indie, if I recall.

All right, all right, you got me.  I was generalizing too much; so sue me. On top of that, it seems that we have different ideas of what a uniqu sound is.  I listened to American Football's "Honestly?", and honestly it sounded like the typical indie song, what with the heavy U2/emo influence that all indie bands seem to have.  I have a friend just like you who thinks indie is super-awesome, but I don't see anything in it.  It's pointless to argue about this anymore; there's nothing I can do to convince you, and vice versa.  We both think we're right.  I'm done debating..
