Lady Thatchers death could propel The Wizard Of Oz track "Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead to the top of the charts.

Those who saw her death as a cause for celebration have prompted a download surge for the track.

Within 24 hours of the former Prime Ministers death, the song had risen to number 9 in the iTunes best-sellers chart. It reached number 2 on the Amazon singles download chart.

Sales figures for Monday, released by the Official Charts Company, showed that the song had already made it to number 54 in the rundown used by Radio 1.

It is expected to climb higher as a result of a Facebook campaign being set up to encourage sales.

Another performance of the song by Ella Fitzgerald stood at 146 in the Official Chart and one by the Munchkins is at 183. If sales of the three versions had been combined it would be selling strongly enough to be at number 40.

Geez, I can't think of many other people who got a theme song when they died. Makes me curious just what this lady did to get such a reputation.

About 300,000 people lost their jobs because of her policies. These weren't spread around the country, but were often entire communities in which the whole population was made unemployed overnight. I can see why they're mad, but a) many of them had it coming for striking all the time and being a part of a ridiculous trade union culture and b) they were all employed with government money, and Thatcher was as capitalist as it gets.

Haha!
::dances::

I dunno who Thatcher is though. I thought she was a TV character, a teacher or something.
Well, if she was really despicable then what is wrong with celebrating that she is gone?
Though I have to say, I would prefer people to be happy at my funeral rather than very sad.
Sure maybe I'd be missed but I want people to remain positive, and if me dying would make them depressed that would be an extra bummer.

I don't see why Thatcher is hated so much? Is that exclusively because of her limiting the power of trade unions?

Here's a link for people who wanna celebrate.

She's the former Prime Minister of the UK. Controversial because of her conservative stances.

I removed that link cause I don't want people to get rilly red and steaming angry. It would be nice if someone would have written a good article on why she was loved and why she was hated. I'm searching around on the internet and she sounds like someone who wants things to go one way, and let's everyone who doesn't fit in perfectly rot to death (but also a person who did quite a few positive things).

I asked someone on the streets and she said that most of that negativity in the media in England was a lie. Maybe I'll poke around some later, for now I'll simply not judge her and I wish everyone and everything to be in Heaven, so she will be no exception to that no matter what horrible things she may or may not have done.

Why'd people download it when they can just get the same level of instant gratification from YouTube'ing it?

I'm not sure what the majority of England thought about her but Scotland despised her.

yeah, she was terrible.

Kind of makes you wonder just how terrible she could have been in the "proper" environment, i.e. prewar Germany or postwar Russia or some broke Southeast Asian country.

Ireland despised her as well, seeing as she was directly responsible for 10 prisoners dying during a hunger strike.  They'd later attempt to assassinate her at least once.
