Why would you even ask such an obvious question other than to incite something :?

I always just called my football Earl, but it never really caught on. Also, hand egg is only what they call in on TV. American slang has dubbed it football, because we hate the fact that the rest of world loves such a boring and senseless sport. I mean, if people aren't getting hurt then what's the point?

They were originally made from a pig's bladder, hence the term pig skin.

Personally, I think they should call American football "WARBALL". The team formations remind me of the frontlines in a war/strategy game. That's why I like the game.

Both have pretty much the same meaning, but hell why use 4 syllables when 1 will suffice? Seems like waste of jaw movement if you ask me.

And what the hell is cold on the cob as someone mentioned earlier? I don't even know what a popsicle is. You guys speak funny :P

Again with the "hand egg" and again with, the commoners would play on foot so it was called football, where the high class played on horseback.

Wikipedia doesn't even call it "hand egg". You must be from some isolated foreign country that was visited by Europeans in the 19th century and whose nation already had a variation of American football and recently just got internet.

If you guys would play a real sport like American football, we wouldn't have this problem. Yea, that just happened. In all seriousness though, where did they even get the idea to call American Football, football?

Well, we invented the game, and no one trademarked the name "football" so we can call it whatever we please.

You're obviously joking but if you aren't I'm wondering why is it a real sport? aren't all sports real?

We do it to troll the rest of the world.

...and it works most of the time.
