If they see something that is made in Europe it is suddenly great quality, elegant dependable and just better?Ilived
i can tell you right now that I dont think that.
there are a few things europe makes that are better than the stuff in the states.
i.e. luxury cars or candy.
some things are better in the us. i don't think anything made in europe is good but anything made in europe and is worth importing across the pond must be worth a second look.
some people do......most I don't think give it a second thought...mind you anything made in China is generally regarded as garbage....Omni-Slash
and that's also not true.
of course not.....but there are a lot of cheap items that are created in China (ie see Walmart) so everyone just assumes that everything made in China is....and that's also not true.

I doubt it, we have France over here y'know, never mind all of those Eastern bloc countries. Hardly renowned for quality.Oriental_Jams

I must admit, I think that way. Ilivedsome antiques fro mCHina are exquisite....problem is...China's rush to industrialization leaves many modern items lacking...

i think china can't really support itself without the economical growth, and a big cheap labor pool is one of the biggests supports for china right now. this will probably become a big problem 20 or 30 years down the line.
Ok, but can people see why I asked this question? I mean, hasn't there been a point where you are buying something and someone says "oh it's made in Italy, so that's pretty authentic which is better."? I could be wrong though.Ilived
Italy makes high quality goods now? :? Italian cars have an average life expectancy of eight months.

Well you shouldn't think AK when you think of Europe, since it came from Russia, most of which is considered to be in Asia.

Nobody considers Russia to be in Asia...Eastern Europe yeah, but not Asia. There is nothing Asian about Russia.
I dont think this is really a question of Americans, but rather anybody importing foreign goods. Im from the UK, and if i bought something and said "yeah man i got it in america" that automatically adds some form of invisible bonus points to whatever i'm showing off.
It's just an idea which seems luxurious; that you got something from another country.
[QUOTE="chathuranga"]German cars I feel that way about.Ilived
It must be that annoying Das Auto commercial.
I'm not really talking about Volkswagon but more along the lines of Mercedes and BMW. Although some of those cars are made in the US, they still beat the quality of the cars built by the Big Three.

I agree....problem is their econimc growth is coming at laborer's expense....at some point the system will collapse unlessthey start opning up to the free market.....govt intervention in industry always ****s it up...i think china can't really support itself without the economical growth, and a big cheap labor pool is one of the biggests supports for china right now. this will probably become a big problem 20 or 30 years down the line.
