Do eleventh and twelfth graders get books upon books of homework? I start school tomorrow and I'm gonna be a junior(eleventh grader). I want to know because one guy in my phy-ed course last year told me that students in those grades get less homework. Is that true?

Err, it really depends on what kinds of classes you're taking, but you almost certainly won't have too much work.

Depends on what classes you take and what school you go to. I'd say no. 11th grade I got about as much homework as in the previous grades, maybe less due to factors such as testing and SATs. 12th grade is just a joke.

Yeah it really depends on where you go to and what classes you take. My high school has a notorious reputation for giving a lot of homework and killing your social life lol. I still remember during freshmen orientation they said that homework should take no longer than an hour per class. You were lucky if you managed to finish your homework that quickly lol. I had the most homework in junior and senior years compared to my first two.

That sucks. Sorry to hear that.:( I've never had a case where I went to an orientation for school and was assigned homework. I think it's unfair that teachers at your school are doing that.

I also start 11th grade tommorow. From what I've heard, there should be less homework unless your taking AP or Honors classes.

My high school assigned a summer reading assignment to all prospective students, while we were still in MIDDLE SCHOOL. lol All of us were pretty ticked off the rest of the day lol.

Wow, your school's policies are really jacked up. What kind of school gives out homework in summer to students at different grade levels?

Is there anything you can do about it?

No.

So who cares, it's inevitable that you will face some homework. Whether it's a "lot" in your mind will be up to you.

For me personally, 11th grade had some of the most homework of all grades. 12th was the easiest though, since I had most of my credits already and had the least amount of classes to take of all other grades..

The "average" amount my agenda from last year said for 11/12's is 3+ hours a night. So yeah, apparently a lot.

Yeah, but it's part of the "culture" of the school. Teachers pile on the homework and don't care about what your other teachers are doing lol. If you were lucky, you'd get a teacher who would delay the test if like half the class had two other tests the same day or something.

twelfth grade tended to be pretty easy, since it's basically over by then. junior year was the most difficult for me though.

Dang. I think American schools need to cool it with piling all this homework on students. It produces more stress than it does knowledge. I'm not gonna memorize a lot of things I learned in high school when I'm in my twenties. I plan to go to college and get a good education there. I just need to hang in there for two more years and try to do well while coping with large amounts of homework. It's so difficult, though. If I don't do well these next two years, getting into college is gonna be difficult. *sighs*

It depends on the classes that you're taking. Obviously AP/honors classes will most likely require a little more work, but even those classes won't be too overwhelming in high school.

It depends entirely on what subjects your taking AND what your school is like. I got some homework, but not books upon books of it. In Year 12 it's really coursework, again not a lot, but more than ni Year 11 (I found anyway), hope this helps.

Depends on what you take. I got two social science university level courses, a science, and a math and I get a good hour of homework each night. Next semester I'll probably be up to 2-3 because I'll have all logistic courses....

If your worry about High School classes this badly, your doomed when you go to collage LOL

but anyhow, like the others said, it all reallys depend on what classes and how many your taking that will be the factor on how many books and homework your getting

At my highschool, we were able to pick most of our courses (2 mandatory courses in grade 11, and 1 mandatory course in grade 12). So for me, there was very little homework all year long. If I had some more credits, I would have been able to take a spare block as well.

Don't worry too much about it. Even if you do get kind of a lot of homework, just take the time to do it and you'll be fine.

Just tell yourself that it's much easier than University/College. Grade 11 is the hardest but you won't have books upon books of homework. At times, you'll have a lot but you'll manage.

Last year, 11th grade (for me) was a piece of cake. Had very little homework (about 15-30 minutes a night). However, 12th grade so far is a different story...

Most non advanced classes are ridiculously easy and have little homework. Though if you get a bad teacher this might not be true.

Exactly this. I for example of had math homework once every two weeks but I needed to study everything we took day by day to pass the course with flying colours ;)

haha. Homework. I barely ever did. I just barely did enough to get a C in the homework portion of the grade, then got As on the test, averaging to a B in the class. Its good to be a genius.

No you don't get a lot of homework. And the stuff you do get is easy enough so that it won't suck up your day. In 12th grade you can have a reduced class load too so you'll get even less then. At least that was the case for me.

Well it depends on your classes. Advanced classes call for advanced homework. I'm a Junior too, which is the hardest year of highschool. If you do your first 3 years of highschool right, senior year is supposed to be really easy.

As others said it depends on what classes you take. Usually by junior year you have some more choices in what you take. I would say that it was an amount I expected.

What is really shocking me right now is the homework I have as a senior. I expected little, but so far I have had about as much as last year or maybe a little more. I seriously can't explain it because I am taking one less class and the classes are overall easier, besides math and my science class which are just the next level from what I took last year. This is seriously annoying me and hopefully the homework load dies down some.

lol over the weekend i did. i had to bring back my physics, ap chem book, chem lab book, pre calculus book, english book, ap world book, and chinese character book. it took hours to do. normally, i bring back like 2 books max over weekdays.
