I like both. I dont think thats the issue though. the issue is when hip-hop fans dont like rock they just keep their peace, whereas rock fans that dont like hip-hop always have a snarky comment. I find it to be like that offline also.

I do. I'll listen to rock songs every now and then but overall no matter what genre of music, it takes hard work in order to create a particular song that's either hated or loved by the masses.

I remember on my bus two years ago, the hip hop listeners and the metal heads were debating on which is better.

I myself like both, but when it comes to metal I don't usually like any.

I love HipHop, always have and always will but still manage to maintain respect for every type of music. I own albums by Metallica, Coldplay, Smashing Pumpkins, Phil Collins ect and you almost never see HipHop fans disrespecting any type of other music except maybe calling Country music corny or something. There is a Rock/Metal fanatic at my school who always walks around in a "HipHop is dead" shirt and looks callously at anyone who displays even the slightest interest in anything else other than NineInchNails let alone Urban music. I don't mean to generalize but Rock fans do act stupid when it comes to things like this

I hate rap. And yes, I've given it a chance many times. I just don't like it. It really annoys me when I hear it. I love metal, rock, alternative, and some country.

I sure do, I ask because it's clear the general consensus between hardcore rock fans is that hip hop is the scum of the music industry. I'd say otherwise. Hip hop takes as much talent as anything out there but hey I'll let the poll talk/

I dont know where you got that from. These hardcore rock fans youre talking about probably just hear whats on the radio and dont know anything about hip hop. Hip hop gets a bad rap (no pun intended) these days because of all the kinds of rap you hear on the radio but if you show these same people real hip hop im sure their opinions would change.

Anyway I dont see why hip hop fans wouldnt accept rock as a legitimate music form. Its so close funk and blues and all that in many ways, all of which pretty much helped to spawn hip hop in the first place.

I assume it's because, a large percentage of rock fans don't respect rap as music.

Rap is not for everyone and I can understand that. What I can't understand though is why people troll their opions around instead of just not answering.

I will never, ever understand where this rock/rap rivalry came from. It's like the Hatfields and McCoys for the 21st century.

Of course rock is a legitimate form of music. Listen. A lot of basic rock and hip hop rythms originate from the work chant rythms of slaves in the USA. Blues, rock and hip hop all share similar origins and history.

I'm a die hard metalhead but I'll admit I went through a Rap phase 4 years ago, but as things in my life started changing I felt more of an emotional connection to Metal then I did to Rap. I have no problem with people listening to Rap but those people who constantly blast it out in public annoy the hell out of me.

Rap - poetry with beautiful music to set the pace and tone

Metal - Middle Aged people shrilling as loud as they can in a desperate attempt to cover up the cacophonous mess they call music.

Two can play ignorance :|

100% wrong in almost every way I'd like to see you rap at half the deftness of Lil Wayne... Rap isn't about playing a guitar, it's about the lyrics. And you do realise a lot of rappers have real instruments incorporated into their acts. See The Roots.

Both are equally good/bad imo. :| Just like techno, classical, country, electronica etc. hence i listen to all of them. Its not the genre for me, its the tracks itself for me. :)

I am a big hip hop head, I usually listen to East Coast grimey gangsta ****. But I do like some rock, if they are screaming the whole time then hell to the nah. But there is alot of system of a down that I enjoy and some other songs by various bands.

Good music is everywhere so naturally you gotta spread out, so even tho I listen to rap doesn't mean I don't like other genres. But a good guitar riff helps as well.

Oh and when they take a rock track and sample part into a beat it can be heavenly and ten times better then the original song. i.e. Changes, If I ruled the world, and my favorite G Joint by Styles P.

Do yourself a favor and check out that track because its sick.

Are you saying that rock groups don't use studio magic to make themselves sound better? Even some of the best artist don't sound as great live as they do in studio.

considering rock predated hip hop it would be pretty sensless not to think it was legitimate. It is like rock fans claiming classical music wasn't legitimate. In fact, Rock is 2 legit, 2 legit 2 quit

Yeah obviously IMO people that are rap/hip-hop fans are the most open minded music listeners...every one I know who listens to rap listens to everything else and doesnt mind it at all...theres no judging involved.. People that are mostly rock fans seem to be the most close minded stupidly arrogant people in the world to talk to about music...i dont know why they are so close minded about music...just enjoy it...seems you take it too seriously...
