The_Game21x

They aren't just ignorant of rap, they're just plain ignorant. It takes a special kind of ignorance to judge an entire genre of something with no knowledge of it whatsoever, and it's indicative of more than just one's taste in music.

Indeed it is but I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt so I'll just assume that this is the only area he displays that level of ignorance.

Hit the hammer on the nail right there. Or however that phrase goes.

I mean you're right. Music is the only area where I'm ignorant. Because it's more fun that way.

[QUOTE="needled24-7"][QUOTE="Toriko42"] Why would it be laughableToriko42
Because rock is a much more legitamate form of music. Don't get me wrong, I like rap. If it's not crap rap on the radio, I might like it. But as far as music goes, I don't see how, in general, rap is more legitamate than rock.

Rap takes as much talent as rock. The only difference is that it takes a special person to be a good rapper while for Rock anyone can pick up a guitar.

I know rapping well takes talent and I'm not trying to take anything away from it, but I don't think you could honestly say being a good rapper takes as much talent as being as good of a guitarist as Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, or Eddie Van Halen.

I like both of it i can go from lupe,q-tip,blackstar,kanye,cise star, atmosphere,dl icognito to led zepplin, audioslave,RHCP,floyd, neil young, dave matthews, any day granted i like hip hop more i can still switch it up whenever. Although i will say this i hate the majority of rap like soulja boy,lil wayne,50 cent, and most 'popular rap'. As well as really hardcore gangster rap as that is just not me.

Compare Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Eddie van Halen to rappers like Rakim, Nas, Tupac and Eminem and then we'll have a fair argument.

Oh, so what instrument do rappers spend years learning to play? And voices don't count. The only things rappers need to do these days is make rhymes about shooting people and getting laid...at the same time. Rock (and I'm talking good rock here, like the 60's, 70's and 80's) takes years perfecting an instrument, finding a creative sound, and writing lyrics about something that's interesting. Rap is a waste of time and money. Of course, this is just my opinion. And it's right.

There's so much double standards in your post it's not even funny. And for the record, just because anyone can rap, doesn't mean they really can.It days practice for you to write great lyrics (I'm talking about multi-rhymes and internal rhymes, while at the same time, you're sending out a message) and not choke in front of the audience at the same time. Same with the guitar, anyone can pick up and play, but it takes years of practice to be good at it. A lot of Modern Rock bands can be just as awful as the rappers you mention only talking about guns, cars and girls.

Good post you mentioned multi-rhyme and internal rhymes

Don't forget to mention metaphors, similes/punchlines, juxtaposition, alliterations, anagrams and then mixing it all into one and reciting it in pace with the instrumental

Then start comparing classic rock to classic rap (RUN-DMC, Public Enemy, Grandmaster Flash, Eric B and Rakim, Beastie Boys to name a few).

Ignorance is useful. Haven't you ever seen Red Dwarf? Actually, not many people have, but whatever.

Indeed, ignorance can be useful.

Though it's not considered good to be totally ignorant of something you're trying to criticize. You just make yourself look foolish in those instances.

Didn't like that song. Usually don't like songs that just bring attention to bad things happening in the world. That's mostly all I heard, the piano is quite loud. Anyways, I don't understand why he took some lines from American Pie of no revelance to what he's saying and added them at the end.

Yeah, I know. But to not be ignorant I would have to listen to alot of rap, and from what I've heard (which is probably more than you'd think) I don't want to. I know I'm generalizing alot, but I'm mostly just targeting a specific type of rap. If I seem foolish to you, I'll stop. I just find it hard to imagine what people think when they don't think what I think. That sounds really weird, I know, but it makes sense to me. OK, well, I'm done posting here. See ya.

Still you have to admit the lyrics are good. Another one by him this time with guitar http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxHQKUNxzsA&feature=related One by a different artist http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xBZ3Cs9bCM (i didn't dilberatly mean to go to the one with the meaning of the song it was just the first one) I do agree with you that it takes more talent to make rock in some cases. And can see why you would think that raps blows do to the likes of soulja boy,lil wayne etc. Just gotta try harder to find good stuff when it comes to rap.

They are good. I listened to the second link (the Mos-def and Kehli one) and I don't mind the lyrics. But, they might as well be giving a speech (which would probably be better because they talk so fast it's hard to understand) because there's not much music or beat to enjoy. While songs like this make you think, they're not what I consider great entertainment, though I see how you could like them.
