Libertarians say there should be no regulations or restrictions on the exchange of goods and services, right? They want to repeal laws against child labor, and prostitution.

So does this mean child prostitution would be legal in a libertarian society?

Libertarians are pretty wacky sometimes but they're not evil.

No, because sexual contact requires consent and children can't give consent.

I have literally never heard a libertarian argue in favor of child labor, or of abolishing regulations against it.

I don't agree with many of their beliefs when it comes to sweeping deregulation but come on, they're not evil.

Employment also requires consent. If a 9 y/o can consent to working as a coal miner, then why not a prostitute?

I honestly don't think they would directly support it, but I don't think they would oppose it.. Much like how Rand Paul got jousted by all ends in suggesting he would support a Businesses right to bypass the Civil Rights acts..

Pretty sure pedophilia is one of those things that everyone agrees is awful and immoral. I also really doubt there's too many libertarians who are okay with child labor.

Nah, I don't believe that. There are some things in this country that transcend political ideology. Child labor is wrong, child prostitution is wrong, etc.

Legal prostitution when of age, maybe. A child? They have ideas and thoughts on how the country should be but they aren't a rabid pack of sick bastards.

I don't think they would ever support child prostitution, no.. But labor? I can see them supporting that even if they specifically don't just due to ideological reasons.. Of not wanting much if any regulation outside of extremely basic ones..

Ah, ok. Misunderstanding on my part. I'm some what impartial to the idea, but mainly against it, due to that fact that they're not mature physically or mentally, and have alot they need to establish in those early years; School, making friends, getting a better grasp of responsibility and respect etc.

As a previous poster stated, no since there's really no consent.

As for child labor, I'm not opposed to it but that doesn't mean I'm okay seeing children working factory jobs. Perhaps it's fine if they work just to sweep floors for a small wage or something like that. Afterall, we allow Hollywood to use children and the things I've heard about the treatment of child actors from adults to employees aren't pretty.

Libertarianism is a philosophy that sounds good in passing, but that really doesn't hold up to any scrutiny. Society needs rules and regulations to function. And if you think it doesn't, you have an overly optimistic view of human nature. Just look at all of the damage deregulating the financial industry caused.

it may or may not, that would be up to the child, no parent would want that but in what ever extreme case it might happen in what would be the alternative? starvation or force? i am also assuming you are accepting that you believe cops murdering innocents is a key tenancy of the coercive society. i would take prostitution over murder any day.

Ironically it is many of society's "necessary" rules and regulations that cause harm.

Why do people always associate Libertarians with Ayn Rand? Ayn Rand says herself that she is not a Libertarian, and the King of Libertarians, Ron Paul, says he disagrees with much of her book "Atlas Shrugged". So what's the deal with that?

And that is where you are wrong. 1. Libertarians aren't against rules and regulations. This is a huge misconception and I don't know how it got started. 2. The main catalyst in the financial industry debacle is the cheap money supplied by the federal reserve due to the ridiculously low interest rates. Deregulation is a scapegoat and not the source of the problem.

I can think of at least 1 group that would disagree. I don't know if I should name it here, though.
