Doesn't it bother you when you see a commercial for heart condition pills and then at the end they list the side effects? I mean, "So buy HealthAlert (May cause vomiting, diarrhea, blindness, or sudden death)". Doesn't that make you question the capabilities of said medication?

No, the side effects are usually rare and they just mention them to cover their own asses. My antacid medication lists 'growth of breasts in males' as a side effect. What an awesome side effect.

Sometimes. I was looking through some laxatives in my local Chemists (bad ethnic food) - and I was reading the side-effects and its said 'may cause rectal bleeding' - needless to say I put that bad boy right back down...

No. If you've been prescribed Drug X, it's because the pros outweigh the cons.

Sometimes I welcome the side effects. May cause drowsiness....oh yeah. I'm waiting for one that says "May cause an awesome time" or "May cause AWESOMENESS!!!".

Most prescription drugs have more harmful side effects than most recreational drugs. I find it amazing how the FDA can approve "medications" that can cause such severe side effects, that they totally overshadow what they are trying to cure/prevent.

I would like more positive side effects and I'm not talking about sports enhancing drugs.

I avoid medication (unless in severe cases) in situations where it just masks the symptoms (pain killers and such); I'll take meds if they're actually going to cure my problem but otherwise I avoid them when possible.

Anything with that side effect I would absolutely avoid at all costs.

Well here's the thing. If a person who is part of your clinical trial has a heart attack or dies while taking the medicine, you have to warn people that the med may cause heart attacks. It doesn't matter if the person had a history of heart disease and lives off lard and cooking fat, the heart attack occurred while on the meds so you must report it as a possible side affect. So when you see a constipation suppository with a SIDE EFFECT: MAY DIE OF BRAIN CANCER, there's a good chance someone during the trial died of pre-existing brain cancer.

This one. Plus, they mention any effects that occurred during drug trials so they don't get sued. Even if it's obvious that it's impossible. I'm on some meds, looking at the factsheets or whatever always yields interesting results. Like STDs. I mean, really?

If you had a 3% chance to get hit by a bus when you went outside, would you stay inside forever?

Nope. I dont take medication, so it doesn't matter to me a bit. But even if I did, it still wouldn't bother me. I've taked 3 college biology classes, and I'm taking 2 more currently. I've learned what gives the medication those side affects, and how they work. And if you think you are going to die, and your taking some meds to live, then even having the side affect of possible death is better then for sure death....

One of the side effects of my one anti depressant supplement is schizophrenia or something close to it, it only effects some people though. My ex who was on the same medication was sent to the crazy house because of it, they had to complete rework her meds to find an ok combination for her.

Absolutely. But assuming A) your doctor is competent and B) you're keeping an open and honest dialogue with said doctor, the pros will always outweigh that X% chance.

The trials for that drug probably included a transvestite who was pumping himself full of estrogen, since I see no reason why an antacid (of all things) would cause changes in hormones. Either way, an extra set of boobs to play with = awesome.

Something else causes male breasts besides that, I forget what though, I know someone who had to get theirs removed too, I laughed and laughed and now we're not friends.

Gynecomastia. Chronic kidney disease, chronic liver disease, HIV treatment and other chronic illnesses along with hormone imbalances cause it.

They don't scare me, but I'd don't think I'd want to take the medication unless the benefits outweigh the side effects.

Most don't scare me, but they do worry me. Who wants to risk having anal seepage just so they can sleep at night? Really?

They put the worst case senario on there...so they don't get sued. Even if it is like a 1% chance that w/e will happen to you.

Then they could be like, "We said it on the commercial! We might have said it fast, but we said it!"

Not really. The likelihood of any of the severe side effects happening is very very slim.
