This is obviously an ongoing debate, however, I would like to hear the views of the gaming community about this topic and feel free to share whatever opinion you have. Anyone may also want to discuss certain games and how people have blamed these video games for their behaviour such as the case with Manhunt where one teenager killed their friend with a hammer.

If they do, they don't promote bad behavior nearly as much as other means of media like television and music. Most people that play video-games are smart enough to realize it's all just fantasy, and for those that can't discern the two... it's a problem with the individual, not the medium.

Playing Mario fills me with the insatiable urge to wantonly jump on turtles.

Well for the weak minded yes, but anything could easily influence them and most likely they aren't stable mentally.

No they don't. Some people are violent, some of them happen to play games but there is no evidence to suggest that games cause violence.

If Video Games do, why can't any other form of Entertainment? Such as movies.

Yes. there is no evidence, but that's because there is also no way to qualitatively or quantitatively measure the effects of video games in a study. It's not necessarily as simple as you made it out to be. It is entirely possible that, if you have violent urges, seeing your violent urges as acceptable in a video game can increase the likelihood that you would see them as acceptable in real life; video games, rather than being an outlet for urges, might only exacerbate them for some people. I'm not saying this is the case for sure, I'm just saying it could be. You shouldn't write off video games that depict horrendous acts as completely harmless forms of media.

No.. Violent crimes have been going down, not raising.. People just don't know that because media coverage of said crimes have increased many times fold as time goes on.

*Sigh*, not this again.. No, no they don't - not in sane peole, at least. Case and point - I have played 1.. 2... 3... *counts*.. 10 GTA games, 7 of them with 100% completion (as in played them A LOT and compulsively) and I haven't stolen any cars, haven't shot any cops and haven't beaten any hookers with a baseball bat. And GTA is just the tip of the iceberg of violent videogames that I've played.

If you're that influenced by a game you already have bigger stability problems.

I like to kill prostitutes, shoot back at cops, and snipe from tall buildings in GTA4 because the game let's me and there are no (real) consequences. Do I have an urge to do that in real life? Well, not really. But that's because statistically, us gamers are mostly nonviolent nerds. Yeah, I said it. It's not like most of us have serial killer tendencies that we have to deal with, we just like to play games. Yeah, there's the occasional roid freak or asylum member in our ranks, but they shouldn't be examples for all of us.

do not think so. todays reserchers think that psychopaths are born. psychopaths act on inpulse when you want to kill somebody you not do it because of empathy.

No.

I think it's the parent's job to ensure their children know that what they see in video games, movies and TV shows are fake and that it's unacceptable to act in ways that spme characters act.

...maybe

i dont think they promote criminal behavior, but rather provide a safe environment to do things in that you can't normally do in the real world

for example, i love driving cars into things/people and off all kinds of ramps and things. do i do it in real life? no, that's what GTA IV is for.

you get to do almost anything you want, with your friends if its got multiplayer, and you can die and respawn in seconds =D

it's what keeps many gamers sane.

No. The closest you can come to it is to argue that what they induce is adrenaline increase. Depending on the individual, they will deal with in in various ways. And in no way should games suffer from artistic boundaries.
