I think it speaks very poorly for humanity at large that we allow any children to starve. It is a legacy of shame for us all, and it will continue to be until children everywhere are able to live without worrying about things as basic as food.

I cant say I do that much, because I havent seen it, if I had seen it I would probably start changing things in my life to benefit them. Its human nature to feel distant and unsensitive about things not in their life and that they havent seen, thats life.

It's hard to say that you care about something that doesn't directly effect you. And besides, those people need to learn (after thousands of years) that you can't grow food in sand. Move where the food is.

Are you starving in a country where it is extremely difficult to get/grow food in any way? I somewhat doubt it.

I actually care about them, but the most I can do is donate my 5 dollars to charity every now and then, I can't be a doctor in uganda until I graduate college, but that's the last thing I'm gonna do lol. So I guess...maybe I don't care as much, but I'd love to do some volunteer work, it honestly sounds kind of fun. Yes I said it, doing volunteer work for starving chillenz may be fun! I get to get like, 20 vaccines and go to Africa and start my own "free ethiopean all you can eat buffet".

I'm simply restating my point that since I don't know all these children, I can't care about them. Just like if I was poor, I wouldn't expect some random person in India to care about me. If I went to Africa and spent time with a few children, I'd probably care about those particular children.

The problem of people starving in poor countries has more to do with the ruling governments of these countries than the people themselves. Billions of dollars of aid go to developing countries every year but corruption prevents much of this financial aid from reaching the people that so desperately need it. Bad foreign policy over the past 50 years by the U.S government has also caused the deaths of millions.

The United States has had a really bad reputation in the past of supporting some of the world's most brutal dictators because said dictator was anti communist at the time.

Throughout the later half of the 20th Century huge areas of Africa were plunged into conflict because of the vacuum created by the withdrawal of their former European masters, and the fermenting of nationalist and Marxist ideas.

Angola is good example of such a conflict. From 1975 until 2002 the country was ravaged by ahorrendous civil war that is estimated claimed the lives of over 500,000 people. The Angolan Civil war was a 'war by proxy' fought between the MPLA who were supported armed and financed by the Soviet Union and UNITA who had U.S backing.

To an extent, I'm not going to pretend I cry in my sleep about it, but I wouldn't mind donating a few bucks when someone asks, or maybe even more if I wasn't such an unemployed person(That means I'm not just unemployed, but really unemployed, for two years).

Not really. It's all about survival of the fittest. If the poor countries were smart they'd all band together to redress the balance of power in the world.

How bout instead of funding money to other countries we only focus on our (talking about the USA) problems? Why keep funding money to these countries whose GOVERNMENT is the problem.

I suppose if I cared it would translate into action. You can't care and have no intention of doing anything. So I suppose I do care and I should think about doing something to help like donating to charity.
