The idea that everything effects everything else, because of a shared connection of some sort?

Supposedly are minds connect to the people we are closest with. For example, If I were in my living room, my girlfriend of 9 years would think about the exact same thing I was thinking about... and mind connections have been studied greatly by psychologist.
It's quite interesting.... so anything is possible.
Still don't see why one really would believe in such a thing. For clarification, I am not talking about people specifically, think broader, like all matter and energy.

What you talk about in the OP seems to be different than the idea expressed in the title. A universal consciousness suggests something along the lines of the Borg from Star Trek, only instead of a hive mind, merely just a linked thought stream. While the OP suggests basically just an extension of cause and effect to the consciousness. Of course I believe in cause and effect, but not that it somehow links the consciousnesses of people in a way that we could "read" another's mind.
Still as a notion its pretty stretchable and can mean many things. Just like a deity for instance is.For clarification, I am not talking about people specifically, think broader, like all matter and energy.

For instance what sort of interaction are we talking about? And what degree? (rhetoric q's)
